I'm quite happy how this is coming together now! Two 5 cage had mounts in, stock fan mounts from my 2nd R5 cut a fitted so I now have 3 120mm fans in the front to cool the hard drives and I've modes another fractal dust filter in the top to keep it all looking stock!

Looking flush and proper, this should be a real option imo for the R5.. pay attention Fractal.
I've only gone and ordered some voile net curtain (all will become clear) some white plasti-dip and a sheet load of matt black & mirror vinyl. ;) Cheers Guv, got my modding head on again.

Coming along super nice. I really like what you have done to make it all fit together. Thanks Tom

Looking good so far Tom!! Can't wait to see the next update and watch the progress of this to it's completion. It really does look, other than the seperator for the 5.25" bays, as though it would (Read: Should) have come from the factory like that.

Subbed to thread!! :D.

That looks ace Tom! How do you remove the top dust filter?

ATM it would catch on the optical bay - I could make this bit wider to match the lower fan filter but you wouldnt have the flange at the edge and you would know it wasnt 'standard'

I think using the correct mount at the top is about as close as Im going to get to a standard looking fractal dust filter

Sweet project Tom. Just seen the front mod bit on UT, looks very good and can see the originality you're trying to maintain. Perhaps the guys at Fractal can make a version that replicates your end product - I know a few customers who'd want one.

What are you going to use for hard drive connectivity ? Are you going for cables to each one, or mount a 5x pcb at the back of the cages to receive the drives ? They're good. Some can also allow you to use geeky lights to work when there's problems or just activity. You could work the activity leds into the case somehow.

You really outlay £1k for the drives ? >.< Last time I seen one of those raid cards they were around £1k ...

Love the Fractal cases, got some R4s in the house.

Now to the serious bit - you not going to Windows Server this, are you ? O o
