Tomb raider

The Sapphire coolers are immense I've had multiple. Although I'm skeptical about the quality of the card itself. Are you planning on water cooling?

was gonna watercool, but they stopped making the komodo coverblock for them, and ive had a hunt around, used ones are going for about £250+ not paying that for waterblocks!

Yeah I was lucky I had experience with Reference coolers in the past and knew how god damn noisy they were. Saw the Sapphire cards used a reference PCB with there custom cooler on it and it was a no brainier for me. Also they were the cheapest at the time and mine was open box ;) 10% off

When I got my 7970 it was that or nothing really. They were incredibly scarce and there was a lot of price gouging going on. I paid £430, the RRP of the card but most were going for £460+

I read in reviews that the cooler was quiet and the card was cool. God only knows where they got that from ! I clocked it to 1000mhz on the low stock volts and the fan was constantly spinning up and making a right old racket.

TBH it wasn't much quieter than the 480s I had. Terrible cooler.

Thankfully when I got my 670 I caught a lucky break, as it was on special on Scan for £314 when they were all £340+ and it came with a lovely cooler.

My current SLI set up hardly ever spins up and even when it does it's very hard to distinguish. Which is nice, because even after an hour of Valley looped it's never been over 73c.

would you recommend a switch?

If it's going to cost you a fortune I would say no.

If you can swap it or do it without spending that much money then of course go for it dude. Bottom line is SLI has given me two minor headaches (Far Cry 3 and Fallout 3) but in both cases it was as simple as dropping back to one card. I'm also very suspicious now of AMD's "huge lead" given the results we both came back with for Tomb Raider. I've got a sneaky feeling Nvidia have been sorting out their drivers.

Bottom line though? it just works dude. Smooth and fast. I was thinking last night that maybe you and I could put our systems together and knock out some benchmarks using the latest drivers. Might be a good way to see how they compare against one another..

I've got pretty much every recent title barring Bioshock because I wasn't a fan of the first two. But I've got Sleeping Dogs Hitman etc and they all have built in benchmarks.

Well 2 670's are gonna cost me about £650, could recoup some monies from the 7970's, shame nobody does a try before you buy

Yeah we could smash out some benchies, obviously using the games as well as usual unigine and 3dmark, could be quite interesting

Excellent ! Right off the top of my head I can run...

Vantage (old Physx version)
3DMark 11
Dirt : Showdown
Mafia II
Sleeping Dogs
Hitman
Metro 2033
Tomb Raider (will use the existing run)
Unigene Valley (have done that one already)
Unigene Heaven (not sure what version I have installed tbh but will set it to max)

And anything else I've forgotten. I did look for a Crysis 3 benchmark tool but sadly one doesn't exist yet and getting the exact movements/levels the same could prove to be very tricky.

Will just wait out the Spurs game to finish (we're losing lol) and then I'll get benching.

i can do them except Metro, Dirt and Mafia, we can add new 3dMark to it as its free, and the AllBenchmark suite as well

we should move to a new thread as well ;)

Yeah NP. Game's nearly over now and what a turn around from Spurs :D

I'll start soon and put a thread up in the Graphics cards section :)
