Those little annoying F@H things ..

Thanks, wish i could leave me rig on 24/7... time to talk to my parents but i already know what the answer is going to be

32 thread dedicated server, 250k PPD for 28 days. £400. Nobody to turn it off or pause it

We have some 6+ year old server (2 actually if my memory serves me) just sitting in our server room not even powered up!! I keep joking with my buddy that I'm going to boot those suckers up and put F@H on them...I'm thinking today might be the day that needs to happen!

Hopefully not the day you lose your job. Even if you have to underclock them to avoid exceeding your company's/ branch's power budget, it's better than not folding at all.

Might have to buy one

:

Btw i'm liking the lyrics in your Sig, have to nab em

No power bill, no maintinance, no nothing. It's actually not a bad deal because even after 2 years rental you'd still not have payed the full value of buying the server upfront.

You can do what you want with the lyrics, they're for the team.

EDIT: okay maybe not 2 years but getting on that way.

that 's my plan

My dedicated rig is more silent than my main rig, only loud part is hdd, might switch to cheap ssd for OS

Loud hard drives are my biggest annoyance. I can put up with drives that crunch a bit when doing lots of seeks all over the platter as that is not constant.

I came accross a 250gb hard drive which I figured could be used in my folding rig or replace the 200gb drive in my main rig.... Nope not a chance. It vibrates soo much the whole case humms and I swear my hand would go numb if left resting ontop of the case.

And then there are those that have a high pitch whine. Argh.

On topic - I having trouble keeping my main rig folding. I'm limited to mostly CPU folding at the moment so when the 2600k goes offline it's a big chunk of my PPD. The V7 client seems to be stalling when a WU is finished.

I think I will update to the newest client as soon as the current WU finishes.

It stalled for me too. Clock was unstable :/

I have come to the conclusion that only SMP folding is worth it for me atm, as I have a stable 60k+ PPD with that, and when I use GPU's(400-450 watt more) I have a whooping.. 80 ish. So.. not worth it from a PPD/Wattage point of view.

By the way, why is it that GPU's don't get bonus points?

Because they render fast anyway - though that logic makes little sense, if any.

i was playing bf3 and then my cat wanted attention and he usually bites mic and so as i talk to others but not him, and this time he did not, he simply walked on keyboard and pc shutdown sheez, i got no idea how he managed it ........ the keyboard doesnt have an shutdown button so its rlly weird, and sometimes he has walked on keyboard during night to look for anything is there or so and usually he manages to make .n.n.n.n.n.n.n.n.n. or so and click enter, my friend at steam was really wondering what i was doing. cats are surely pro at typing long sentences with skills with 1-3 signs or letters

might be kinda random as it was mentioned about cats in first posts

The control gui doesn't ever get further than "Connecting", rather than "Online" or "Offline".. :/

That's what I got when I broke my Pragma which controls the measuring of your everything, including status such as online/ offline etc and progress of WU like 2%, 54% etc, one of your clocks is probably unstable. Try a reinstall at stock clocks then go from there. Broken Pragma is supposed to be one of the nastiest things known to man :/

You can try to fix it but I seriously doubt you'll get anywhere. You'd just be wasting your time.

This is going to be such a n00b question, but what is the Pragma?

I believe it has something to do with the C programming language. It has been a while since I have done any programming so I am having trouble remembering exactly. I will have to do some research.

Edit: found this explanation online at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080806203854AAzelVQ:

It's a way of accessing compiler-specific features. For example, some compilers allow you to change the padding used in structures with something like:

#pragma pack(2)

The only standard pragma is "error", which is a way to display a message and have the compiler generate an error.

#pragma error "text to display"

Any other pragma would be documented by your compiler's manufacturer somewhere in the documentation.
