Those little annoying F@H things ..

It's not the CPU you need to worry about, its the components on the motherboard. Specifically the power circuitry around the CPU. Because it is water cooled you dont have a fanaround the socket mixing the air up.

Personally I would try the fans at 7v (use the 12v as the positive and the 5v as the negative) just to give the air around the motherboard a little more energy.

yea, over-reacted, cpu doesn't pass 62C
tongue.gif
as for the mobo, i don't think it really gets hot (in the OC3D Hardware Monitor the temps that shows for the MOBO are cpu-50C auxiliary-49C and system-33C) what else should i check?

also just explain, there are two 200mm fans as intake, one 140mm and three 120mm exhausts, not to shabby for air flow

also about the 7v, i did try that the first time but it didn't work for some reason... all the fans just stopped.... i looked it up and i have no idea if this is whats causing it, but i read that u should be putting the ground into the 5v unless u have something else that will draw the same amount from the same rail ? or something like that, i never liked electricity in physics
tongue.gif
but yea didn't work.

Just keep the fans at 12v IMO - you get used to it

i did for months, but now i'm getting used to the extremely quiet system, ahhhh sooo nice

Got nhd14 coming so i do nw that temps should be better then before

Cool (see what i did there
wink.gif
) lets us know how much ur temps drop with the D-14 and post some pics with the new cooler installed

Haha yeah cant wait to get installed, pics will be taken aswell

I thought my current prolimatech megashadow was massive but i could still access all ram slots fine, the d14 is going to cover them

The power circuitry probably doesn't have any user accessible temp sensors. It's something you will have to physically check. If it's burning hot it might be worth hooking up a fan to blow just a bit of air over the general area.

You do have a decent amount of air flowing through the case, it's just as case of it getting moved around the CPU socket area.

Ok guys, got a update for you. My NH-D14 arrived today and man it is bloody huge
ohmy.gif

The quality of the cooler is exceptional
biggrin.gif
So i spent most of the day taking the pc apart, cleaning it at the same time. Dust filters where clogged up with dust, now my rig can breath in fresh air
smile.gif

So here's what it looks like in my rig:

s_img_0893_1_.jpg

I know you guys be like, WHAAAAT!!!! 3 FANS?!!!!

I will be taking the top one of, it was just for picture purposes and yh it does look ugly with 3 fans
laugh.gif

The temps have dropped massively. Before i was hitting 89c and time even hit 91c where the rig froze and lost me two work units. Now my rig is back at 4Ghz and it has not gone above 73c. Thats a 18c or so difference
biggrin.gif
I'm well happy with that and it now means i can now get back t folding
biggrin.gif

Nice one dipzy, the temp difference is awesome.

Thanks
smile.gif

I remember Tom reviewed this on a i7 920 @ 4Ghz on a rampage II Extreme, this video allowed me to see the kind of temps i could possibly get as its pretty much the same cpu and board. I did take into account that all chips are different and that come produce more heat than others. In the end i was glad to see that my temps were so close to what Tom recorded on his testing
smile.gif

nice, but i don't think it looks that bad with 3 fans
smile.gif
it seems more 'balanced' since theres a fan on both sides

now that my rig is really quiet, i hear a funny noise, i have to look into it, maybe one of my fans doesn't like 5v or maybe its something else that needs my attention

It's a never ending quest. In my previous PC i had to mount the hard drives on foam because everything else was soo quiet.

I very much doubt I will have a rig as quiet as that one ever again.

As for folding going to pot. I only have my 2600k towing the line at the moment, I just looked at my stats and nearly fell off my chair. I have been getting awful work units

Yeh you should be getting much better PPD with the 2600k. Not to rub it in, but I'm getting 20K PPD on my 2600K with the GPU at 25K PPD. Not running -advmethods on the GPU.

My p4 and the GTX260 is down for the moment as my PSU did POEF
laugh.gif

and its my own fault as its a sweex POS brand
wub.gif

goin to the store to get me a better PSU so a few hours NO GTX260 Folding...

Ray........

Got a SSD on the way now aswell. If i move the GPU Tracker folder that's currently on my desktop onto a USB and then onto the SSD, will the WU's currently in progress resume or will new WU start?

Guys all my rigs are going down for the time beeing as i am changing my room layout, for the summer that is coming
smile.gif

all rigs are going in front of my window again and i am also making room in my other room next to mine
ph34r.gif

for more Rigs !!!
wiggle.gif

I'll try to be back ASAP !

greetings Ray....

My folding has gone to pot lately

been busy using my pc for other things
sad.gif
hopefully i can start it up again soon
smile.gif

just wanna start by saying i'm happy for you getting your new bits from tom.

now that your getting a new mobo, new cpu, better cooling and (maybe a new gpu) you can pretty much have a dedicated folding rig using ur 'old' stuff
tongue.gif
also when you do have time to fold with your new bits say hello to better ppd
smile.gif

I'll try to be back ASAP !

greetings Ray....

Well finished with my room and got around my 2 main FAH rigs,

but lost a few WU's do to a UNSTABLE MACHINE but still Folded so i didn't lose to many PPD
biggrin.gif

i am going to sell my p4 GTX260 as i can get a very nice price for it,

so i can Upgrade more laters......

Ray.......
