Those little annoying F@H things ..

Kepler is gonna be a long long wait from what I've seen. How much ppd do u get from ur 470s put together? Because if u can sell them for a good price, u may be able to get a 5xx card/s that will match that ppd without all that heat. I'm gonna go see how much they are worth (in Canada at least)

I'm sure I could sell them for $125-$150 each. Probably to friends. They are good together for about 24k-30k PPD at stock. I'm also concerned about gaming though. Two 470s are faster than a 580 right? I probably wouldn't even notice a difference to be honest, I only game at 1680x1050, but everything maxed is a must with AA and AF.

stock 580 can get around 18-19k ppd, on most WU but on the new 803xWU it gets like 24K +

for gaming 2x 470 is a bit better, BUT not on ur screen size

for comparison i have 1x 580 and i run two screens, main screen is 1920x1200 (which i game on) and secondary screen is 1680x1050 (which i usually just using for monitoring stuff, or reading multiple documents for school)

but the reason i was suggesting this is because you can OC a 580 and still have better temps and MUCH better power consumption , kepler will be even better but thats probably more then half a year away

Well, I think it's probably time I try to offload these 470's. What's a good reference 580 to go with?

personally if I could got back before WCing when i was choosing my parts, i would have gone with the reference EVGA gtx 580 BECAUSE if in the future you decide that you want to WC you can and you still keep your warranty. If you don't care about that i would say get a zotac because they seem to be a little bit cheaper here where i'm at, and they are still equally good cards.

Do you think that's too hot?

For me nope not really but if it goes above 90c i will do something about it,

can still do some side fans wich i will buy laters...

i'd rather see 70c then 80c....

BTW Folding will def show when it IS to hot with folding as then the UNSTABLE MACHINE ERROR comes around the corner very fast....

Ok, cool. my 580 has been stable as a rock so far so I'm not too worried.

When my Asus 560Ti got to hot it just slowed down a bit, never got an unstable machine error.

The strange thing is the core didn't underclock, but it did slow down. I used furmark to check this and as soon as the temp hit 99c the FPS did infact go down. The card seemed to regulate itself so it never went over 99c, but that could be coincidence.

ur 580's are pretty warm, mine sits at 66-68C with the WU8033, and i've not seen it pass 70C (it is a single card in a hafx with its fans at 37% but still it seems to be running pretty cool and quiet.

what volts are your 580's at, and what core speeds?

1.095 on the core and 1.65 on the memory. I've not OC'd the card as it is already too hot when folding.

those are ur stock values? huh, mine stock are 1.038 on the core and 1.58 on the memory,..

you should try to under volt a little bit and keep the same clocks, it will probably still be stable and lower ur temps a bit

Main rig is down for the moment (hour or so) as i need to figure something out,

i have my i7 2600K overclocked to 4500Mhz but its only showing at 4200Mhz(CpuZ)

al tho Futuremarks benchmarks are showing 4500Mhz as well WTF!?

anyone a idea ?

Not that i am really worried as my PPD(SMP) is correct

Thanks in advance and greeting Ray.....

Windows reports my E-350 as running 1.6Ghz still even though it's stable at 1.68Ghz - though CPU-Z shows correct reading (reasonable F@H stable OC for a pipsqueak chip).

Try to use OC3D Hardware Monitor, its really good, since i started using it i have not had the need for any other temp monitoring program, OR cpuz OR gpuz ... It does everything all nice and neatly in one place.

-- thanks to dug for making it

Doesn't give a Vcore reading for me, did post in the thread but Dug hasn't responded yet.
