The ultimate in cooling. Phils next massive project

scorchio, as far as I know the G71's won't be available until April. And that might be optimistic. I'd rather get the best available in January so that there is time to test with the watercooling kit, I want it optimised for the heat output of the card.

Update:

I've spoken with Phil and we've decided on a few points.

It now looks like the MM case just won't be big enough for all the stuff we're trying to cram in so either we'll have to find a larger off the shelf one or develop our own custom case. I have access to a firm that can design and construct the case it's just a matter of working out what we need. Being able to design the chassis from scratch will take longer of course but it will mean a much improved end product. For example some of the watercooling power would've had to be sacrificed to fit in the MM case.

Graphics wise it looks like we'll stick with some high end 7800GTX 256mb cards.

All the watercooling blocks will be made of solid silver but the C1 Extreme heads will be copper.

Thermal paint is looking unlikely now. The cost of the job and the possibility of chipping are too high. The whole case will probably have an anodised chrome finish.

My personal feeling is if your going to spend this kind of money then why the hell not go for 2 x 512mb gtx your probably looking at about another £400-500 but since your budget has gone crazy already why not :D i think you would be lookingat another 1500+ 3dmark05 points :D

..Two reasons really, one is finding the cards, two is special 512mb waterblocks would need to be made taking the cost spiralling upwards still. Each block would cost £800.

can i be the first to give you a offer on the beast, when you sell it :D

Any updates on this? Looking to be one of the best systems i've ever seen :)

Tom

We are still at the design stage as you'd expect. The initial design is the most important part of this project so we have to make sure its spot on. We cant afford any mistakes. I believe the blocks are at the fabrication stage and I have the cpu cooling sorted. We are working on the case right this minute. :)

We're currently coming up with a case design. The case is going to be built to a high spec by a company Phil knows.

The waterblocks for the graphics cards are no longer going to be solid silver, the performance just wasn't worth the cost. They are now going to be silver plated blocks. We hope this will only decrease cooling performance by a couple of degrees. The water cooling for the RAM, hard disks etc is still on as before.

I've ordered the ram, 4x corsair PC3200 LLPT modules. Spec here:

http://www.corsairmicro.com/corsair/products/specs/twinx1024re-3200ll.pdf

If we can cool them, I'd like to increase the ram to 4GB. That's something for the future though.

I've also ordered one of these:

http://www.hyperossystems.co.uk/07042003/products.htm#hyperosHDIIproduct

Has anyone else ever had one of these products or used the HyperOs software to run multiple OS's?

Phil should be getting the components for the cooling system over the next few weeks and as soon as we have a case design the manufacturing can begin and we can get cracking on assembling some of the internal stuff I want.

TBH id avoid watercooling ram...

HDDs are not a necessity, but nice if your not going for all out clocking - i prefer the enclosure type as they reduce noise too :) rather than just cooling something a fan can do...

Never be afraid of trying something new everyone says to avoid watercooling there ram but no one i know has done it,so how do thaey know not to.Im going to give it a go for sure,im going to give it a bit of chiller action.

Looking forward to seeing the custom case, will it be losely based on the MM cases?

I can't wait to see this project really start to take shape! We'll know whats going on when pics start coming through :)

I'm also just going crazy with Kool160 and also taking a page from Scorchios book and going water cooled RAM. I also don't know of anyone who's done it so this could be a new trend hehe. Let's see RAM under the chiller mate, it'l be awsome!
