The ultimate in cooling. Phils next massive project

I have a friend who worked on the Scan Chemelion paint job, it is fantastic to watch but as K404 say's at almost £1000 for the paint it is a bit steep.

And also the thermal paint has a tendance to chipping easily.

I'd personally go for one of Phil's chemically enhanced anodised colours.

But at the end of the day you have to feel that it has been built and finished to your expectations and wishes otherwise you will always have the thought in the back of your mind " I wish i had ".

What ever you decide it is goint to the one impresive S O A B.

@scorchio

Yeah the MM cases are great. That was one of Phils ideas. The case is exactly double the width of a Mach II which should make it easier to build.

@k404

The project is already loking at 5 figures, the thermal paint would be the icing on the cake. I had hoped the coolant tubes from the C1's could maybe be pressed up against the case to cause a cooling effect. This contrasted with areas like the back of the motherboard where the cpu's are, the 10 hard disk enclosure, Hot spots by DVD writers etc should look pretty good.

Also the watercooling system could have a radiator touching the case side, you'd be able to see your water temps by looking at the side panel :-) If we wanted to get really clever then patterns or words could be spelt out in heatsinks on the inside of the case, when temps go up it can be seen in colour on the outside.

@satman

Yeah I'm tempted to let Phil do an anodised job but like you said, this is my chance to do it my way. I'm going to try and have every feature I've ever seen in a mag and thought, "Hey that looks cool".

I hadn't heard about the paint tending to chip, thanks for the warning. I wonder if it could be given a protective plastic coating...

Lol Geo this is getting crazier by the minute :O

We love it :D

When do you think you'll have it completed by? Feb?

:O :O :O

Just had to quote that, never really totalled up how much this was going to be, i hope to spend the same amount on a computer myself someday (with phil as well)

The thermal paint job is very cool, i personally love the anodised stuff phil does but that's me, your computer will still look amazing.

This is going to be such an awesome project :cool:

My friend that helped with the paint job now lives in Aus emergrated last month, when he mails me his new email address i will ask him for more info on the paint and whether a protective coating could be applied.

Thanks satman!

Not sure on completion date yet, as said Phil is busy for a while and we still haven't finalised the specs. Maybe end of Feb? It takes as long as it takes as my mum is always telling me.

Well guys we have got LOTS of good ideas and I will be touching base with my two engineering gods over the next few days regards cooling options. Whatever happens this project will be something incredibly special. I would imagine we're looking at an end of February finish date the way things stand but obviously this thread will remain updated by myself and my good friend Geo66.

Reference the thermal paint it does indeed chip - I would be extremely worried about any powder baked or paint option due to this fact. Chemically brightened anodising actually strengthens the aluminium and although scratches are very possible it does make it a lot easier to work with. Plus I can do a range of new colours now like Platinum, Gold, Bronze and Copper.

a bronze case...now that sounds sexy

a little slow to reply, but welcome to the forums, and good luck with the project, its sounding to be a jaw dropper

Yea, phil please don't tempt me. Just looking at Project Chrome again gets me drooling over wanting one done!! You got any pics of these new colours yet? Would LOVE to see some!

I'm sure one of your anodised colours would look great Phil, if we couldn't stop the thermal paint from chipping then I don't want to use it.

Maybe a silver finish to go with the silver waterblocks? I'm making a list of ideas to talk to you about tomorrow, I've never had a fully customised system before so I don't know what's possible.

Been thinking about a fingerprint lock as the onswitch, how cool would that be? Have to run it from the standby voltage on the PSU....

boardy, would you like me to join teamUK with the new system? It'd be great to show the americans that not all the top modding goes on there.

For sure, I can't keep us up there at the top forever and someone needs to take this seriously and get that UK No1 spot - with your kit you have as good a chance as any.

TEAM EPUK Needs you!!

I think I talk for most of the UK modders when I say, HELL YES!!! lol.

teamUK is open to any of the UK forums, and modders from the UK only so we can show them we can do it! We should really do a who's in EP-UK teamUK thread actually lol. Completely forgot bout that. The rule is that you have to join EP-UK team in teamUK lol :D

I'm aiming for an end of Jan official launch, whether I will hit this or not is another thing, me n mav need to talk about what is needed and test the system as it is.

LOL for that, as well as getting in touch with Tyan for custom-BIOS, and with Phil for the work, better get in contact with your energy provider and ask for endorsement. :D

I seem to be asking everyone else.. Just emailed gainward to ask for a price on two of their top overclockable 7800GTX's. If we can get hold of them without the heatsink/fan assembly that should save a bit of time and effort.

Have just seen these: http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/14/sneak_preview_of_the_nvidia_quad_gpu_setup/

Wouldn't a pair of those make this the best gaming pc ever? Only 2000 built though so the chances of landing a couple seem pretty low. Who thinks I should try :-)

Thanks for the tip nick25, that thread has some interesting details. I'll email Asus UK and see if it's possible to buy a couple. It would certainly be in keeping with the Dual Everything philosophy. In fact this system would have 4 cpu cores and 4 gpu's so really it'd be four systems in one.

I'm thinking of buying one of these Hyperdrive III's http://www.hyperossystems.co.uk/07042003/products.htm#hyperosHDIIproduct

Anyone used one or have an opinion? Maxed out to 16BG there'd be enough room for OS, page file and apps/games. I love the HyperOS software and I thought about getting a II model but decided it wasn't good enough yet.

If the system is not going to ready until Feb you may want to hold out for the G71's i'm sure it would be a better option.
