Now I`ll agree, under the present circumstances, c2d is one of the better bits of mashed microism u can stick in u`r mobo.

Onto the PCWorld claim:

"C2D allowing u to run several demanding applications at the same time"

Name 7 (I`ll use 7, but to me several could mean 6,7,8 - around 7) demanding applications u can run at the same time.

I`ll accept 1 game, as pcs don`t like u running more than 1 game at a time in general (still). If u want to call a game an app... maybe not. Aslong as it works from desktop and doesn`t stop what it`s doing whilst u do something else.- ooo tuff choice.

EDIT: AND I mean run, I don`t mean start up and ly there doing nothing.

Access

Excel

Groove

Infopath

Onenote

Outlook

Powerpoint

Publisher

Word

All the office applications u atleast have listed there do nothing when u click out of them.

Try setting Outlook to check for mail every... mmm 30 seconds and see how bad u`r evening goes.

I find it annoying, coming from a multitasking background, that if u got a game running (now I know it`s beyond a demanding app, it`s more like a resource hog) - let`s say TotalWar - any of them, if u goto the desktop to do something quick, it saves out all the settings of the game and reloads them when u go back. That`s not multitasking, that`s not even pre-emtive.

Let`s try running these on u`r c2d:

Rar a 1g folder.

Check for mail too frequently.

Virus check u`r system.

Use a downloader like Torrent or Limewire.

Play a dvd.

.... struggling now...

Fold.

Then write a word document, with formating n`stuff.

at the same time.

Mediaplayer running a video

A full system scan with Ad-Aware

Downloading a 600MB file

Rendering a complex scene in 3DS Max

There's 4 and I bet it's ground to a shuddering stop, because none of these will be sitting idle.

I can have this running:

iTunes

Dual F@H

Firefox with 8+ Tabs

MSN - a few convo's

GAIM - a few convo's inc IRC

CoreTemp

LimeWire

Fireworks (using it)

Photoshop (batching)

CrystalControl

That's a fair load on most systems and mine seems not to "chug to a halt", even with just one SATA drive

Still...the PCW adverts do suck

The pcworld adverts really annoy, it's almost as bad as the people who go on QVC selling pc's and vista, making it up as they go.

Altho if you're ever bored and need cheering up, you can just go into pcworld and ask some questions about computers and laugh at the answers they make up.

Try makin up your own questions like "Does the motherboard support ALF RAMC?" (Alf Ramsey);)

MSN and IRC aint demanding, neither are browsers with 20 tabs open, unless u write a script to refresh all the pages or summit.

My mobile phone runs msn and browser and mediaplayer ;) ARM processor :p

its not actually physically possible to run 7 "demanding" apps at the same time. if its dual core then it can only run 2 threads and will keep switching to each app.
