Clarkson once again proves that he's right about "accidents", topgeat and beaurcracy with his articles at
The Sun
and
The Times
People calling for top gear to be banned should just stop watching, turn over to ITV and carry on watching the multitude of documentaries and fictional police dramas.
Whos to bet that if an actor was killed during filming of Eastenders that no one would even batt an eye lid and it would be a "tradgic accident" yet you put someone into car, sorry someone Volunteers to put themselves into a dangerous situation, all merry hell breaks loose. We have indeed gone mad with the blame culture and our refusal to accept an accident can be just that, has gone out the window.
If Top Gear does get banned then everything similar has to be banned. You cant show motor sports on tv, period. SouthPark covered this excellently with the Cartoon Wars episodes. Once you ban one thing you have to ban them all or ban nothing, no inbetween. Im not comparing Top Gear to Mohammed but the situation is similar in some respects.
To me Top Gear represents one of the last bastions of normality on TV in some respects, Clarksons comments that "all motocyclists should be shot on in the face" is just pure funny. I mean come on, in other forums Ive seen people get upset about it, but, dont we all have a friend who says stuid things that we dont agree with and just carry on with it?
Does Top Gear REALLY glamourise speed? Yes, on a air field, not on public roads, in controlled conditions. How many pople who complain that it glamourises speed own a car that can do 150+ mph or own jags, audis, porches etc etc, the exact middle britain that complain about the speed fascination. Perhaps a tad bit of jealousy that goes there.
Clarkson makes a good point that it was the BBC's own news website that started the backlash and complaints against Top Gear as well.
At the end of the day TV is like the internet. Dont like what you are looking at, watching or listening to.. then DONT watch it, listen to it or look at it, at the end of the day everything is a numbers game. If people arent tuning in then shows get cancelled.
I bet you a fiver that WHEN Top Gear does come back, the BBC2 ratings will trounce everything on that night... o wait... it already does.
