Spec me a quality chair please

So I went to sit down on my Corsair T2 today which cost £300, The whole base came away, I fell backwards and hit my head on the wall and also something cracked in my neck which is now causing me some really bad pain so I have to go to hospital.

The chair has a weight limit of 135KG and I weigh 95KG so I'm a fair bit off the weight limit.

Upon further inspection of the chair it seems the metal is the cheapest lowest grade available, Also known as Chinesium or pig metal, Very brittle and very cheap.

So once I get back from my hospital appointment and X-ray to make sure no bones are broken around my neck I'll be shopping for a chair, So I need recommendations, No gamer crap please.

My two recommendations are the Herman Miller Aeron and Humanscale Freedom, both probs about £900 but you can pick they up second hand, in mint-condition for about £300.

Sorry to hear about your neck bud.

I use a Secret Labs Titan chair, fabric and the cookie one can't remember the color name. Basically grey/black. Love it. It's hard and stiff but you get used to it. You don't want plushy anyway. Doesn't keep you straight and prevents better circulation. Heavy duty for sure. I've stood on it and moved around not being easy on it on purpose to test it's durability. Was totally fine.

If you get leather or fabric they also sell a cleaner to go along with it as an accessory. Which is nice and useful. I haven't ever used one because I keep my expensive chair well clear of anything remotely dirty.

Everyone here always says Herman Miller. But I'm pretty sure they are UK based so I can't comment on that. I don't have access to it.

Looking at the break, I wonder if its not a case of cheap metal (although probably true) but maybe some present fracture already in it? Something like this would be grounds for a serious complaint. That could have caused major damage.

It could very well have been a fracture which is common with cheap Chinese metal.

I have a Secret labs Omega, I've found it really comfortable fell a sleep a few times, stood on it to get to a shelf (i'm a short ass). Going to say my opinion of these type of chains has totally changed after sitting for hours and no aches it's great.

It's just cheap alloy. I bet all of the other racing chairs use similar crap. That is why I have always avoided chairs like that.. Always.

I've had two Herman Millers now. I started on a Sayl but my fat arse outgrew it and the arms split (second hand they were already doing it when I got it) and I've had a Humanscale Freedom Headrest. However that is a niche chair and many don't like it. Again I wore out the arms on that. You can get them, but I also broke mine which was totally my fault.

TBH with the money y'all spend on hardware I am amazed you would overlook something as important as your spine and keep buying these stupid racing chairs. They're not good. Why do you think luxury cars don't use seats like that? because they are not comfortable and not good for your back. They are designed to hold you in. WTF do you need holding in for when on a PC? And why, pray tell, has every one accepted that it is good to sit in a seat designed to be almost flat with the floor of the car in that way? They were never designed for desk use FFS.

So once again I shall reiterate. Do yourself and your body a favour and buy a proper chair. None of this crap being pushed by Corsair and ETC. They are not experts in your spine or anything else.

Nearly all of (if not all of) the good chairs are American. Herman Miller, Humanscale etc. Now yes, a second hand Embody will cost you £600 or so, but then it's better than £1500 for new.

If you can handle green instead of black you'll save £120 on an Aeron (the next step up the ladder)

BTW note how both of those have a curved seat. Curved to fit your bum and allow your thighs to roll off without meeting a hard edge. If I sit in a flat chair my thighs go bloody numb.

And the entire back is slotted so that when you move it moves with you. It's unbelievable tbh. And it's a great talking point. Every one who has been in my flat sits in it and goes "ahhhh" lol.

Yeah well for someone who doesnt spend all day on a pc... I can't justify spending that much on a seat. I'll just stand if I need to. Embody retails for 1900 in Norway and second hand is still around 1000. Even Aeron second hand is still £800.

I sit in my Epic with my feet on my Saitek rudder pedals and its more than good enough for me. What I will say for the Epic which I think was a bit dumb is the padded headrest they provide which forces your neck forward. But its an accessory you can easily remove.

As a "gaming" company is involved I'm willing to bet they will want to cut as many corners as possible and use as much Chinesium as possible.

Why so pessimistic? If Herman Miller back themselves on the best quality then they would not allow this. They would use both companies brands to make a premium luxury chair. It'd be overpriced for similar quality they already make. Just because of 2 words. Gaming and Logitech. Add those on top of the Herman Miller baseline and yeah. Expensive.
