The other day i bought myself a Silver Cooler Master Stacker for use with my water cooling project.

When i actually got it out of the box, i must say i was rather dissapointed, it looked a bit 'cheap' (no offence to anyone that owns one). But in comparison with my "Black Widow" the overal finish and quality of components was quite poor.

So rather than go to the expense of sending it back, i decided to mod the fucker myself :D

Here is what i have planned for the baby:

* Respray exterior of case in BMW Metalic Black Paint (2 Coats Primer, 2 Coats Metalic, 2 Coats Varnish)

* Respray interior of case in BMW Metalic Silver and overpaint with UV Blue clear paint.

* Remove 'cheap' power/reset switches and replace with chrome switches for: Power/Reset/Fans/Cathodes

* Install custom watercooling.

This thread will be a diary of how things are going :)

Painting The Case

03/09/05

Today i started the project by purchasing the neccesary equipment:

1x Tin of Grey Primer

1x Tin of Clear Varnish

2x Tins of BMW Black 'Galaxy' Paint

2x Packs of various grade sandpaper (most importantly 1200grit)

I started by stripping the case of any parts that were not to be sprayed, covering any other parts that didnt need to be sprayed, and rubbing it all down with 800grit paper

And the i proceeded to spray the case with primer, using consistent strokes at approx 25cm away from the case until the case was totally covered.

After 30 minutes i then applied a second coat in the same manor.

Tomorrow (after 24hrs) i will rub down the primer and apply the first coat of metalic paint :D

Here is another pic of all the parts primed and rubbed ready for the first coat of black paint:

Here is the case getting its first coat of black :)

And Gentlemen, a sneak peek of what the entire case will look like in a few days. This is the plastic part that goes on the top front of the case which i speed tracked through the spraying process as it didnt need priming:

I'm nearing total completion of the case now. All the panels are sprayed, and the first coat of varnish has dried on them, all i need to do is rub them down with 1200 grit wet/dry now, add another coat of varnish and then use cutting polish to even everything out a bit.

Here are some pics of the case as it is now. When its all done, the paintwork on the case will shine in the same way as the plastic bit on top:

Today i COMPLETED the first part of the case! I spent 3 hours rubbing the surface down with 1200grit+water, then used cutting polish on one of those automatic polishing tools, and then finished off with 3 coats of top quality wax. The pictures below do the finish absolutley no justice at all

Camera photo's are shit i know, but i'll borrow a proper camera for the big finale!

Today i set to work on the side panels using the same method as i did on the top of the case.

I actually managed to mess up one of the panels by rubbing one of the corners too hard and going back to the paint  so i'll have to spray that one again

Despite that cock up, the other panel came up great, and pics are below:

Very sexy indeed Jim. If I had my case new I would do roughly the same. I don't so I ca't be arsed ;)

mmmm - Sexy Stacker ;)

Cheers guys - i've already run out of paint twice

I was going to paint the backs of the case doors (the side you cant see) with the same BMW paint - but thats too expensive, so i think i might just get some matt black paint and use that. Its not as if anyone will see the backs of the doors.

I also need to grab some cutting polish, to flatten the varnish as its very hard to prevent it from orange peeling.
