As the topic says.

i'm building a new gaming rig, the MB is the Maximus IV Extreme so the theme will be black & red, only problem i have is with the GPU, i want to get the gigabyte GTX 560 TI cuz it's batter then the asus one, but it's PCB is blue, is there any way i can paint it black?

another this i thought about is just making some kind of a "shield" out of plastic or metal to cover up the back of the card and then color it, would that effect performance or heat?

any other ideas would be great.

A "shield" shouldnt affect performance all that much i wouldnt expect as most if not all of the cooling goes on on the cooler side of the board, as for coloring it ive seen some i guess you can call them "mods" where people have used permanent marker others where people have used a few coats of nail varnish with varying degrees of success, a quick google search should show some results probably.

If you want to try the shield idea you could cut a piece of cardboard to about the right size and place/electrical tape it on to see how that affects temps.

Have you considered getting a MSI Twin Frozer GTX 560 or a Gainward Phantom GTX560?

Also with the backplate you won't be able to buy one for the GTX560, but if you are going to make it aluminium is the material most backplates are bad out of as far as I'm concerned. Also a properly made backplate can actually improve temperatures.

EDIT: EK Waterblocks do sell black backplates for the GTX460, which has a fairly similar PCB playout to the GTX560 from what I've heard, but you should check that.
