Official OC3D Project Cars January Challenge

Hah sigh.. no one picked up the sexual innuendo :P

Anyways. I can't believe I waited this long to pick up Project cars. I was having a blast last night. Seems pretty damn unforgiving with the lap timers when you cut a corner that tiny bit too much. Suppose I need to get used to it.

Nope

What's to stop people having all the assists on?

I'm driving Sequential (so auto clutch and paddles) as I keep pulling the gear stick off my desk. I need a proper racing rig that doubles as a flight sim cockpit. I think full manual is faster - plus you can go from 5th straight to third or second for some corners.

Most assists make you slow I find? It would be nice (though almost impossible) to standardise the setup + assists (the correct setup can make a HUGE difference)

Assists will only take you so far, but if you're not used to the challenge car you can be at a loss with no assists if you only have say a day or so worth of free time etc. But like you said a standardised setup would be good. In Assetto Corsa the leaderboard actually shows you the assists used but PCars doesn't appear to.

Assists do nothing but slow you down, I have them all off and run automatic box although some times I do have to manually shift down.

learning to full manual or at least use a sequential will improve your laptimes quite a lot, at least you're manually shifting down. Engine braking contributes an AWFUL lot to stopping power when you get it right :)

Always done it, especially in Assetto Corsa where gears matter. I'd much prefer a AC lap challenge but I can see the popularity of PCars being higher. Assetto has the tracks and cars down to within 0.003mm laser scanned for their models and the physics is second to none. PCars still feels very Arcady to me with a sprinkle of sim.

So today I had some time spare, figured I would destroy wraith's time ......

Then I thought, this car needs some tweaks, so an adjustment here and there, then a few more laps with a much better handling Evo X ........

Still think there is at least around a second more I can shave if i tidy up a few corners

Sensational time!!
I really need to look at the car settings. I have no idea with suspension and camber etc.

you mean something like this ?

Hover over the + or - in the assists column :D

R.I.P - I'm 79th :D - highest wins right ?

Aha! No assists.. traction control and stability are on for both Wraith and Killbane, therefore Jimma has the quickest time
So what are you suggesting? All aids off, manual gears and internal view only? I just ran a few laps with all aids off and I'm still smashing out 2:44:00s

Camera choice isn't important IMO, but yes to the rest :D

Manual gears on a controller is a royal PITA.

Nah it's fine, I always use manual gears on controller. Automatic clutch is acceptable on controller. I would suggest changing the control scheme so that it uses X/A instead of LB/RB to shift though.

Stability control! No wonder I'm getting in all sorts of trouble going up the hill and ending up doing a nice 360.

I don't think it matters too much - Race with whatever settings you want or are comfortable with. They all have their pro's and cons.

Alternatively have an all out Fastest Lap winner and a Hardcore Henry Mode Champ.

It's all just for bragging rights.

hah that leaderboard is perfect.

I think we should definitely aim to keep it level, so thinks like traction off, stability off, damage on, I'm not massively fussed on gears, because automatic is slower anyway so that's your own disadvantage, I think pushing that on controllers is a bit unfair all things considered, Auto clutch is fine for the purpose of this.

I'm mixed on driving line, I think people would be surprised how much faster they go when they largely ignore it and learn the track properly, taking your own line and stuff is much better. (overall) I guess it depends on people's time available so no need to enforce that really.

I'm not all that bothered about camera mode either.

Driving model though that should be on pro, that definitely affects things.

I'm just gonna leave this here, its not great but a decent banker lap, so that i've entered :)
Bonus points :D Im ahead of TTL :D

Settings don't matter, aids on or off, personally, the only aid I use is ABS.
I have the driving line on but change to my own line for certain sections.
Damage is irrelevant, easier to have it set to off so that you don't have to restart the time trial session if you do make a mistake on the lap. If racing, then yes it needs to be on, but for timed laps, no point.

Ultimately, if it is valid on the leader board in game, it's valid here.

Where do you change the driving model? What does it change?

I have set another time of 2:39.917 with no aids and full damage on. Just using auto gears, auto clutch and driving line. So I would say that the aids do slow you down.
