NZXT Sentry Mesh Unboxing & Review

For the last few months, I have put up with loud 30DB Plus fans in my case which sounds like a 747 is parked in my bedroom. I have decided to buy the NZXT Sentry Mesh fan controller. This fan controller is capable of up to 30 Watts for each of the five channels.

The product packaging is nothing special with some product branding and a picture of the product itself. The rear of the box displays some information about the product.

The contents of the box include the fan controller itself and a multilingual user manual.

The Sentry Mesh controller is based around a mesh design with the frame and mesh made of steel and the connectors and sliders made of plastic.

The Sentry Mesh controller is powered by a single molex power supply connector.

Here are the five fan connectors going to each channel. This fan controller is capable of 30 watts per channel so it is possible to run multiple fans from each channel.

Now test time...

I hooked the Sentry Mesh fan controller up to my 29.75db Akasa 120mm LED fan. I could lower the fan controller down to 5V and the fan turned out to be quieter than my 19Db Silent Coolermaster fans while still pushing quite a lot of air. I have to say I prefer the sliders than the turn knobs you get on most fan controllers as you don't see big black or silver knobs sticking out the front of the PC, But I suppose everyone has their own opinion. This is the third fan controller I own and I have to say this is by far the best one I have ever owned.

The only thing I would like to see is some LED's around the gaps of the sliders so you could see a nice glow around each slider which would be great if that feature was added.

Overall I would give the NZXT Sentry Mesh a 9/10. It is an outstanding fan controller which is crammed with features and is great value for money!!!!

Nice review, I'm thinking about getting one of these for when I get my Cosmos 2 but i'm not sure yet because it looks like the Cosmos 2 has a built in fan controller, but if I do need one this one is on my list.

If you fancy a controller for the Cosmos then maybe this would look better, its near enough the same except it has 6 channels that can handle 50 watts each and its Illuminated...

I have never had a look at Cosmos in person so I wouldn't know whats best.

Trying to decide if I should get it powder coated red along with the drive bay covers you done. If I do decide I will let you know.

Alrite pal, will do.

It looks good so far, it mite look good in red. decision is up to you though

I picked up one of these for my main rig this week. I bought a used one and it works great, def worth $15.

I personaly like the NZXT Sentry Mesh better because of the lighting, sicx channels, and because it has 50 watt channels and I an running 6 fans a channel on a channel. But if you don't care about lights and arn't runing over 30 watts per channel I would deffinatly go with this one because it is cheaper althought I have Senty Mix.

Does yours make the fans make a buzzing noise? My NZXT sentry 2 used to make my coolermaster fans create an unbareable buzz. I've heard this was also an issue with the early models of the phantom 410 too.

I think it's to do with how the fan controller works. Some of them rapidly turn the fans on and off whilst others do just decrease the voltage, obviously the latter is better as it doesnt create a buzz. I take it as you mention 5v it is the voltage decreasing method.

Also, to point out about wattages, you know fans only use like 1 or 2 watts anyway? I cant see the point of NZXT making that other one 50watts per channel tbh, but still, i suppose it's an option if people do want to be running like 150 fans in their pc
