NZXT phantom

Hi everyone !

I have recently purchased a NZXT Phantom but I am still using the stock cooler on my quite old Q6600.

I finally decided its time for a new cooler ! Almost immediatly I decided for the NH-d14 until I discovered it is quite tall and a side fan couldnt be placed with the nh-d14.

I started looking for a good alternative and found the NH-c14.

Now on to my actual question does anyone else know of a good cooler that would fit with the side panel in.

I'll get back to you with the measurements but my gues would be a maximum heigth of around 135 to145 mm

Edit: the actual clearance turns out to be 160 mm though I would prefer a few cm of clearance !

Thanks in advance,

Daniel.

Did your Phantom come with a side fan? Mine sure didn't..

Put both fans on the roof as exhausts and get a D-14. That way the negative pressure inside the case will still pull air in from the side and if you have the stock rear exhaust and two front intakes your airflow should be more than good enough to keep your setup cool. The D-14 really is worth shedding the side fan off even though the Phantom has a tendency not to keep graphics cards as cool as I'd hoped it would. I intend to get some 120mm Noctua fans and attach them to the lower end of the side panel in the next few months so that could be a solution for you.

My NZXT sadly didnt come with a side fan either!

The whole reason I want the side for cooling the graphics card I have a 8800 GTS which gets pretty hot.

I dont like the idea of sacrificing a 200 mm intake for a slightly bigger cooler since the added airflow of the 200 mm fan should definatly make up for the smaller heatsink.

At least thats my opinion feel free to make me change my mind ! I'm interested in the pro's of just the nh-d14 and no side fan.

Also about mounting 2 120 mm fans instead of the side I don't really like drilling holes in the side of a brand new case haha but I will consider it as a last resort !

Thanks !

Look at the XIGMATEK XLF fan. Its a 200x200x20mm fan and you can use that as a side panel fan with the dustfilter together with a Noctua NH-U12P wich is just 2mm shorter then the NH-D14. You need to mod it to be able to fit it to the side panel tough but nothing major. Im not quite sure if it will fit, you probably will have to ditch the dustfilter but worth it imo. I'm getting my fan next month and i will try.

Jesus H Christ just get the Noctua. You only get one 200mm fan stock on the Phantom anyway. "the added airflow" which isnt much and doesn't help whatsoever will not make a smaller cooler perform better than a D14. If you really need "The added airflow" get another 120mm fan for the front/side and block the grille on the right hand side panel. Sorted.

i got the white phantom and i wouldnt trade it against anything even if its not possible to fit a 200mm fan on the side... 2 120, 1 140 intake and 2 200, 1 120 out is enough anyway

Maybe a very late post, but i got my Xigmatek fan today and the result: CONFIRMED!!!!

A Xigmatek 200x200x20mm fan WILL FIT on the side panel together with the NH-D14. NO modding required!! I put the rubber fan mounts on the fan and squeezed the round tip of it through the 230mm mounting holes with a tiny tiny flat screwdriver!! If you want, i can post pictures later!

I don't think the xigmatek fan works with the nhd14.... without the dust filter it could be done, but than you could just go for the nh u12p and put the dust filter with the xigmatek fan on
