New Headset/phones

I'm looking for a new headset/phone after my Corsair pair's mic broke and them taking ages to replace/refund them.

After a bit of research It seem's that "gaming" headsets are over rated, over priced and perform poorly. So I may be looking to pair a really pair of headphones and a stand alone mic for voice coms ingame.

I play a lot games. Mostly world of Warcraft(Don't use ingame sound for it) MW3, and new titles that come out. I play even more music with high bass and kicks.

I've got a Asus Xonar DS 7.1 soundcard.

As for budget £100.

Advice welcome!

AKG 200 series, Beyerdynamic 770, 880, 990 or Sennhiesser 555 all awesome headphones around 100 quid. I prefer the Beyers for their bass.

Pretty much both, the low end isn't too defined. I was considering them until I listened to them and I couldn't be happy with the lack of character. They are a damn fine set of headphones, a lot of audiophiles first pair of cans, the mids and highs are good, but as I said, I couldn't live with the lack of bass, especially for what I listen too.

How would you rate the MDR-XB700 by Sony?

Never listened to them, but the Extra Bass thing is a bit gimmicky if you ask me, i.e. they'll make bass a priority and leave the highs and mids a bit vacant. Mate the Beyers will be good (closed back), nice and isolating with decent bass.

Which beyers? Ones I looked at cost alot!

I'll check them out.

What about a microphone? Wanting a decent one so people on vent/mumble can hear me clear but nothing expensive.

Any clip on or desk mic will do. I have a clip on boom mic I modded onto mine and the quality is fine for VOIP

If you are not using an external amp or a sound card with one built in go for the 80's as the 250's are harder to drive.-
