My Own File Server Storage

Good Day,

Before I begin my new project/quest in making my first file server storage. I would like to ask for opinions & advises from the experts here in oc3d.

Here is a list of what I have already lying around.
  • HDD
    • 2 - 500gb SATA HDD 3.5
    • 1 - 300gb SATA HDD 3.5
    • 1 - 40gb PATA HDD 3.5
    • 1 - 60gb SATA HDD 2.5
  • Case
    • I think will be replace as there are already some rust build up & the plastic parts are already broken.
  • Motherboard
    • Still figuring out the model but it is an ASUS (from my old unused PC)
  • Video Card
    • Still figuring out the model but it is a MSI PCI 64mb (from my old unused PC)
  • Power Supply

I ask my friends for advises, at first I thought of putting them into cases for external storage used but there are not many store here in my place that sell HDD case without the HDD. I stumbled upon a few sites/blogs discussing NAS/Network Storage. The pros & cons of using one seems to be a little overwhelming for me but it seems a good option in a long run.

So here I am looking for advice before I start my quest to something I'm not familiar with.

Currently I'm looking at some motherboards that are small (mAtx - mItx) for space convenience. (I'll update my post after I eat dinner

Thank you for your help.

Sorry for the delays in my updates, it seems I can see my limitations with regards to looking for motherboards, I'm at lost to where to start & confuse w/ these sockets & stuff.

I'm currently looking at ASUS/Gigabyte/Sapphire/MSI boards & counter checking there reviews here in oc3d.

May I ask if anyone can shed me some lights? (I don't need it fancy, it is for File Storage on Network used only)

Thank You
