My i7 rig (first build)

Hi guys,

I finally upgraded to a complete new i7 system at the end of January. This was my first build and I'm happy (relieved) to say it went well and without any complications.

I haven't started any overclocking yet, and may need a better CPU cooler than the one I have at the moment (although MSI Utility is reporting the cpu temp is just 26/27C idle [system temp just over 30C].)

Its tidy enough for the moment too but I was too impatient after putting it together to really tidy it up as demonstrated by the bulk at the bottom!

The specs are as follows:

MOBO: MSI Eclipse

CPU and cooler: Intel i7 920 with Akasa Nero.

RAM: Corsair Dominator DHX+ DDR3 1600MHz 6GB

GFX: 2xBFG OCGTX280 in SLi

HD: Velociraptor 300GB (and my old 500GB standard WD drive)

PSU: Corsair HX1000W

DVD/BluRay: LG GGC-H2OL

OS: Vista 64bit

CASE: Antec 1200

EDIT: Theres an XFi Xtremegamer between the two cards; you can just about see it in the pic below!

(Monitor: Samsung T260)

A few quick pics (sorry for the quality)

Thanks for viewing.

Chain it to the wall or it will disappear mysteriously!

Seriously, nice rig. The HX1000 is modular right? Can you take off some cables and hide those which are left either behind the motherboard or in the 3.5/5.25" bays? That would make it look a lot cleaner. You could also try pulling the 24pin cable a bit more behind the motherboard tray.

You're right it is, I'm going to have a tidy up this weekend. The problem was, I built it late at night and I had work the following morning. It was 2am by the time I had it all ready to go and couldn't wait to power it up and decided to worry about the mess later :P

On my way. Can you leave the lights on and the front door unlocked? Thanks mate :p

I know the feeling. When you get your shiny new hardware all installed cable management is the last thing on your mind :D

Hmm I actually managed to get it tidy the first time around :p I never really hurry installing hardware, just taking it slow, take some pictures and make sure everything's right.

I do know the rush feeling though, just manage to suppress it :p

And oh, you should leave the lights off with the door unlocked. That way AntiHero can't be seen :')

Haha, it definitely is hard for anyone to justify the money spent on something like this but I couldn't help myself.
