Motherboard help

Now do you want the bad news??

To me this is singing out 1 of the very rare occurances that does happen from time to time..... Or if you are lucky, software / driver conflict

Some of your VRAM has gone bad, or there is some software that has cause a major conflict with the video drivers.

So to test, you need to install the card in the AM2+ machine, and stress it (as much as is possible on one of those) and see if it produces the same results, or alternative to that is a clean install / linux live disk and run it for a bit on that.

For a clean install I would suggest for time being to go with a spare hard drive if you have one lying around.

If the above produces the monitor still going into standby, then it might mean a RMA, but I would wait for others on here to reply first, as this is just best guess as can't get hands on with it, and they might have some other ideas.

Well at least the warranty is still good.. Just bought the card about a year ago... Will try it here in a little bit. Have to find the computer first lol

Well lets keep fingers crossed it the software / driver issue and I am wrong about the VRAM, although last time I saw this, the Gpu had overheated and made the VRAM onboard the card need re-flowing to fix it :(

I'd go with a full format and fresh install, just as YouWhat said if it's drivers you'll know pretty quickly.

Everything crossed bud, will probably still be online for the next hour or so.
Think we are good! Installed wifi drivers (no Ethernet ports in my room...) and am now installing latest amd drivers for the gpu. So far seems the problem is gone. Thank you very much Wraithguard and YouWhat. You guys just saved this computers life. This is the reason why I only come here because of the people like you guys on this forum! Thanks again!:notworthy::beerchug::lol:

I wouldn't celebrate just yet, get all the drivers installed to be sure first. Also you're welcome.

true, true. Got the latest drivers installed, gonna do a stress test to see if it crashes or not
Well here we go... I celebrated early and in return I get an asswooping from the computer... So guess it's time to let Asus know what going on with the 7870 and get it rma'd. Fun fun.....

At least you have a conclusion now and be happy it's Asus they have a pretty good RMA service.

Unfortunately not it's the R9 270X now, but if your 7870 is still under warranty they have to do something, either recondition/repair it or replace it with a product of equal or greater value.

Didn't think so, oh well. As long as I get something that works, I will be happy:)

On the bright side a 270x is better than the older 7870s. With higher manufacture yields you get better cores and therefore OC potential.
