Hi all @ EP forums

please note this will probably invalidate your warranty peeps so please do this @ you own risk

Mach II st-Mach II in short

1 make a usb cable for yourself or even try maplins?(i used an old mobo header and mouse for this, just cut and joined them)

2 Follow the pages in the instructions the "st owners are asked to ignore" on installing the software and connecting the usb to your mobo

3 Play with all the controls that all the people with full Mach II's get :D

4 Go overclock some more in turbo mode

(3 a) you may need to force the drivers in yourself !!!

Little scenario

I recently purchased a Mach II st from Phil. When i got it home all excited as I'm sure you all were. After following the instructions for setting it up, i fired it up only to find that i had the following LEDs on:- flashing green ,solid yellow ,solid yellow, solid red,(gutted).I move to my old PC to read the Nventiv sites FAQ's and found out it would probably need a firmware update sounds simple eh?well as it turns out you need the usb to flash the Mach and this item is NOT included in the ST package :( I phoned Phil next day and basically told me the same (tnx again for your time on this M8) he said better off talking to Nventiv direct so i did via a support ticket.Well the reply i got was not what i would of expected form a company like Nventiv, all i got was a link to the FAQs,s page telling me what i already read for myself,:bummer: where is all this leading you may ask? i was so annoyed with the lack of support as far as the ST model. when i decided to take a little look in side the Mach and much to my surprise i found that the PCB i had see web pages displaying the usb connection was on my own ST model. so me being me decided to make my own usb cable from and old mobo header and an old mouse.Much to my surprise this worked straight away, when i plugged it into my spare PC installed the 1.23 software downloaded from the Nventiv site and flashed the firmware to the latest and every thing worked :D thus saving me from RMA-ing the unit back to Phil.

Well once i had the ST working with the system i set it up with i decided to try the same usb cable with that system and it worked also.I now have full control of the boot temp and fans like on their Mach II theres even the LCD header on the PCB :)

please note this will probably invalidate your warranty peeps so please do this @ you own risk

a few thoughts

1 check your PCB on your st unit

2 the system specs between the st and Mach II seam the same but I'm sure we will be told different

3 watch out for newer revisions on the st model (PCB)

BADpEnNy oot !

sorry peeps i maynot have made the force the drivers part enough this may cure someones lil probs

so how did you know which wires to connect for the USB????

also where did you get the software from???

i guess trial and error :p

the manual shows which coloured wire should go where in the mobo so you got a start from that.

the software can be downloaded directly from nventiv.com mate

in their downloads page....

am inpressed. So do you get all the evap temps and all that.

So I guess if you where to buy the LCD screen and connect it, it would be a Mk2???

Please can somone confirm that the header on the Mach II PCB is:

+V, D-, D+, Ground, Unused.

The P4C800-E Deluxe comes with a handy USB 2 leads that would cut up lovely to fit inside.

my mach 2 GT is connected to my P4C800E deluxe usb header.

i am using the 4 pin one ;)

so from left to right

White-green-Red-Black wire :)

P4C800-E Deluxe Header is: Red, White, Green, Black.

Then you say it is: White-green-Red-Black wire into the Mach II?

Or is it White-green-Red-Black wire into the mach II and Mobo (i.e. using wrong colours but it works).

Hello Folks.

I have a Mach2 ST and a Mach2 GT for a review on "my" Fórum, and the first thing i notices once i got home, was that the PCB of the ChillControl was exactly the same, the only thing that the GT had was a USB cable that the ST didn't had.

So, i tried it and it worked! :)

One mor thing, i tried the LCD and it also worked on the ST! :D

Great product the ST! :)

Now this needs more Cap. Tubbing for the R404a mod! :D

Cheers!

Hey everyone,

Well, i've got mine ST also, same that Raptor has, bought on the same place etc. I've used one of those old cd-roms audio cable with the 4 pins .. tried to conect and nothing the ST isn't detected. Raptor using the usb cable of the GT tried on his ST and it worked .. i 've tried all the different positions, ansd testes the usb bracket of the board and it works well ..

Any sugestions?

Thanks

Hi Gandalf, are you both in Portugal by the way??

The "soft-mod" for the ST isnt 100% guaranteed according to my soruces at nVENTIV HQ. Some of the units work and some of them dont - the quality of the cable might have something to do with it.

Go figure .. me and my bad luck .. i just made a cable with and external usb conector and gona try it this way .. let's see.

I'll post in a few minutes.

*puts hand up

Still looking for confirmation of wiring before I try.

I know my mobo is (Red, White, Green, Black)

I made one Mach II (Red, White, Green, Black) to Mobo (Red, White, Green, Black).

But is it:

Mach II (White, green, Red, Black) to Mobo (Red, White, Green, Black).

Ferret I was reading the CustomPC mag (June 2004 p93). They show fitting a std MachII and I quote "our cables were wired incorrectly, and we had to rewire them according to the colour coding and pin-outs outlined in the motherboard manual" They show a piccie of the mobo end with a 10 pin header - 2 rows of 5. The bottom left hand four are used and go White - Green - Red - Black from left to right -if this IS their BTO PC then the mobo is albatron PX875P Pro. Hope this helps rather than confuses! They dont detail the MachII end.

BADpEnNy,

The usb cable you made is straight through? I mean .. the color order in the prom is the same as in the board (for ex: red|white|green|black and also the same at the board) or you did invert some cable? (ex: prom- white|green|red|black and in the pc red|white|green|black).

Thanks

Phils,

Yes we are both from Portugal .. :)
