Mach II st - full blown Mach II

The "standard" way to wire USB according to the USB spec is <red-white-green-black-black(optional)> or another way to put it is <V+ : D- : D+ : circuit ground : earth ground (optional)> I believe that correlates to <+5V : -3V : +3V : ground : ground> not 100% on the last there, take note that Pin1 is marked ont he Chip Controller on your Prommy and that would be red. Now to the meat of the post, I tried this mod using shielded USB cable with an earth ground and no go. This is the 5 wire USB cable with both grounds, this cable plugged directly into the motherboard USB slot via a male connector on the end. I used metal pin things like used in any standard cable and a 5 pin black cable housing to connect to the prometia. I then tried another method making a USB cable that plugged into the board's USB header from the Prommy directly. Standard pinout using gold pin connectors inside a black audio cable housing. I soldered two shielded USB header cable together to get the appropriate length and then wrapped the individual wires in black tape. I tested the cable with a multimeter and it tests fine no shorts and it will carry the USB signal. I can put pics on the net if anyone would like. This mod hasn't worked in either test. I think we need more info.

FYI If you plug ground into positive on either end of the USB cable you will fry your board be careful that ground never touches pin1 or pin3 on a standard layout USB header.

Snap, which is why I am questioning the Mach II end. I alread know my mobo is red-white-green-black and have tested with multimeter.

I tested the prommy end and pin 1 is definately a positive 3.3 or 5V i'm not sure.

Hello Folks.

I have a Mach2 ST and a Mach2 GT for a review on "my" Fórum, and the first thing i notices once i got home, was that the PCB of the ChillControl was exactly the same, the only thing that the GT had was a USB cable that the ST didn't had.

So, i tried it and it worked! :)

One mor thing, i tried the LCD and it also worked on the ST! :D

Great product the ST! :)

Now this needs more Cap. Tubbing for the R404a mod! :D

Cheers!

Glad it worked for you bro but what's the pin out on that cable? Is it shielded? we need more info for those of us that don't have a prommy USB cable and have to make our own. take pics if you can, I want to know the order of wires plugged into the prommy end. If the cables aren't color coded then trace the wire individually back from the motherboard pin 1 on the board shoudl be red pin 2 white pin 3 green pin 4 black or +5V -3V +3V and ground thx man

Shielding is only needed to stop errors in high data transfer rates, the Mach II will not need to transfer that much. Anyhow my cable was mostly shielded correctly, also tested with multimeter for shorts and resistance.

Also post by Brwmogazos stating:

‘my mach 2 GT is connected to my P4C800E deluxe usb header.

i am using the 4 pin one

so from left to right

White-green-Red-Black wire ‘

Now I KNOW the P4C800E deluxe usb header should be Red, White, Green, Black. But if his cable is White-green-Red-Black wire to White-green-Red-Black wire then that is the same (if wrongly coloured and shielded) as what we have made.

But he could of meant: White-green-Red-Black (Mach II) to Red-White-Green-Black mobo. Or Red-White-Green-Black (Mach II) to White-green-Red-Black (Mobo).

Ferret Good link m8ty

the usb cable ive made m8 has a usb connector on the end(the type u plug into your pc for mouse and kb etc.) rather than using the mobo header but ive tried it both ways and both worked

And you put Red-White-Green-Black (left to right) into the Mach II didn't you?

This will mean mine just won't do it then, although it all looks like it is there and was purchased in the first week or so.

there seems to be a little confusion as to what colours are need to go where

Can someone who has this working confirm the colours?

On the Mk2, you take the side panel off and you can see 5 pins with USB marked underneath. Starting from the pin nearest to you what do you have.

and then which pins are they on the MB starting from left to right.

Cheers

Good suggestion - however, what really matters is what the pin definition actually i.e. +5V, Gnd, D+, D- which pin is what - you could use all the same colour wire so long as they went between the right points on the two boards. The picture Ferret linked to is quite misleading really - what does it mean 'depending on which type of cable you have'?

sw

Correct, the best way is for someone to test with a multimeter and signal generator to get exact pin to pin. It is likely though different colours are used thus as long as we know what colour = what pin at each end we can work out the pin to pin.

So just have to wait for a kind person to confirm for us.

If you had 4 coloured wires it would look like this perhaps

Mk2

PINS 1 2 3 4

Color R W G Bk

MB

PINS 1 2 3 4

Color W G R B

This is what it might look like....

Hi mate

what i said is correct in my system.

I will say it again.

i have both the GT usb cable installed in one of the top 2 usb headers and the atcs front usb ports connected in both bottom 2 usb headers.

so for the GT IN the motherboard header from left to right

WHITE-GREEN-RED-BLACK

and for the USB ports IN the motherboard from left to right

RED-WHITE-GREEN-BLACK

so the mach 2 gt uses "different"colours for each connection...

both these two connections i mentioned are on the motherboard...i cant check for the mach 2 gt control board...

Cheers for that.

Are the wires covered inside the Mach 2 so you cannot see the colours? Or you just not keen on taking the side off?

Can anyone else who has a MAch II please look inside the unit and confirm what colours go into what pin. And confirm they have the same colours left to right going into the mobo as Brwmogazos does above?

The USB connector is located at the back of the mach II unit, near the bottom and you will need a torch to see it properly.

Thanks for your time.

i just cant be ****d taking the side panel off mate...

done it many times...i had to install the LCD that came with my GT ... few days ago too ;)

i didnt take any pics though...and i knew i would need them one day :p

Hello! :)

Whell, the cable i'm using is the one that came on the Prometeia Mach2 GT, i simply connected and it works! :)

The colors are:

Board connector - White/Green/Red/Black

Prometeia Chill Control PCB - White/Green/Red/Black

This is counting from left to right!

If you need pictures, ill post them!

Ok. Here are some pics:

Raptor - great help posting those photos. If only you could have bent that blinkin copper pipe out of the way on the second one ....
