Lapping a e6600

Was reading that many economy chips may have a light curve, but I didnt see anywhere around that the e6600 i use has this issue...I didnt pay attention when i put it in, but does anyone know if the e6600's do indeed need/benefit from lapping?

/sigh....guess when i go out in an hour to grab some arctic silver ill be grabbing some sandpaper as well....

Curse you for makin meh work XD

ALL CPUs benifit from lapping, look up my thread and you will see that I've shaven 8C off of my CPU :)

Not at all. It might give you a temperature difference, but whether it will yield the same results as you have got is 50/50. I have heard many cases where basically no improvement has been seen.

Try without lapping (and no, I don't think your chip is one of the 'economy' chips that have aren't flat). If you want an improvement, then try lapping it.

What cooler do you have?

as far as knowhow...ive looked up a few guides....its simple enough....sme people seem to differ on ending grit tho...2500-4000......id prolly go 4000, and not be lazy

i hear a mirror finnish drives the ladies wild? =P

man im scatterbrained this morning.....cant seem to bring all my thoughts to mind before i type ONE post...

Where can one find a lapping kit in a retail location? All my new equipment arrives today and I am NOT waiting to put it all together or take it back apart to lap it later ^^

I lied.... my temps are much lower than i thoght....

Im running superpi as we speak to 16mil, and under full load neither core is above 43 celcius.... guess i wont even bother lapping....thats like....way nice n cool eh? ^^

He has the stock cooler.

Super PI isn't the best way to test your max temps.. download Orthos Stress Prime95 (simply type in to google and take the first link, hah sound like a navigator? :D) and run that for 30 mins to 1 hour to give you your MAX temps you will reach, it runs at 100% of your CPU constantly, and leaves no room for idle or anything.. do that and let us know your temps please.

Orthos for 3 hours while i was gone maxxed temp out at 48C ^^;

What are you using to measure your temps? That is really low (too low), unless you have a very low ambient.

Missed it, thanks for pointing out. :p

@OP: That temp seems dreadfully low for full load on a stock cooler. Your either really lucky or the temperatures are being read wrong.

Im using core temp 0.93.1 i think...or whatever hte most current version is....and yes..im sure its accurate ^^

like i said...this room is REALLY REALLY cold XD.....42ish degrees F

Nah, aint falling for that.

That wouldn't be possible, bearing in mind the amount of voltage going through that processor. Especially with a stock cooler.

LOL I got my CPU on (room is damned cold!) and I am at 19C and 21C.. Okay yes I have an Antec Nine Hundred and an ACF7P but still! And it is lapped but that is still very cold, it is 1C above ambient!
