hey everyone,

i had a lan party at my place last night, we played bf2, frozen throne etc... We connected 3 comps including my self, onto a network through a router, i put in the ip address and subnet mask etc, except there was another comp (there were 4 all together) who couldnt see us in the work group, but we could see him, and when we double clicked on him it said u need admini rights etc... And we got him too host and we couldnt see his game though we could see him in the work group and he couldnt see us in the work group and when we hosted a game on lan. His comp has had the same problem in the past though we got around it some how and i cannot remember  anyone got any ideas y this was happening..

Regards Mike

yep we tried that, also tried other work group names, restarted the computer a million times, used a different router, diff cables everything we could think of.. lol :S

To have a easy access on a hard drive (to put/get some files...) u can use the "admin$" command. For this, u click on the Start menu and click on Run then u tape \\the_ip_adress_u_want_to_reach\C$ or D$ and press enter. Try that next time u have a LAN :)

(Windows server service must be start on the PC u want to reach)

Rem : The command "ipconfig" is useful to get ip adress of a computer

Might be a noob answer but: No-one has mentioned firewalls? A prompt could have poped up in the background while in a game blocking access??

I've had this problem before in LANs. I've found that windows can be quite fussy about this. Try disabling and re-enabling the LAN after entering in all the correct details.

games dont need the workgroup to be same you just need the ips. He probly has winxp home or pro and sp2 that turns on the firewall when installed. But it used to allow all lan traffic but sence worms spread so bad thru lans thats been hanged you have to do it yourself. Or turn off firewall temp its not hard to do go to control panel then windows firewall click off and ok if games still dont work I would try pinging each ip make sure you can get a ping reply if so then you should be able to game. On the sharing he has to have somthing shared and sometimes windows gets picky and forces a login usualy does that if your on differt workgroups a simple way around it is add another login temp till you get what you need on the pc.
