IDNET Max broadband

That's fine, apart from the news article suggests we'll see 2mb speeds, followed by a gradual increase, while I'm seeing significantly REDUCED from 2mb speeds :(

It could be the modem/router you use to connect. What speed is it synching at?

How would I tell that?

It should give the sync at the info page, which, you can get to by logging into the router's web interface, then going to the (adsl_status_main.stm) page. The info about your router is somewhat undocumented, although for all intents and purposes it should be fine.

Ah yeah course forgot about that

downstream is currently 6688

upstream is 448

EDIT of EDIT: getting 400mbps so must have bumped a bit :)

woooo, i can now download at 550kb/s :)

Not bad tbh, I'm still probably going to wait till the max not working problem gets resolved. Also, any info on whether IDNet would be prepared to offer a higher capped service?

there isnt an issue with max not working, it's just cause of the demand for it.

connection seems to have got quicker over the last couple of hours, top speed of 650kb/s now.

Not true. Some people have been losing synch upto something like 4 time a minute. BT's position on the problem is along the lines of "meh".

but that is expected to happen in the first 10 days, hence having the 10 days, to find the maximum sync your line can handle. then take 1/2meg off.

It's what bt said there were going to do all along. But that is the usual outcome bt.

No its not. The data rate is meant to change without losing synch. Their synch speed hasn't gone up yet, and I'm waiting to see what happens after the 10 days first.

I was getting really bad speeds last night- worse than the 1mb I was on. Had a stable sync of 6mb, but interleaving (I think) was turned on. Before that was getting stable speeds of 4-5mb.

Afaik, intereleaving isn't turned on automatically, and will only be turned on if you report a problem to BT... It should make the connection better, but it will mean your latency will go up.

According to Simon, the IDNet requests have been sent to BT with interleaving off.

BT can decide to turn it on after to 10 days if your line has lots of errors. You can then request that they take it off but they wont help you out with the errors.

Yeh, as I said, it isn't on automatically, and won't be turned on automatically. BT won't help you out with errors, but turning on interleaving is the most they probably will do (for now) and mainly for those whose lines are so intermittent that they are unusable. It will increase the speed, and reduce crc errors, but will induce an extra 20-40ms ping on the line.
