how far are you from the exchange and what are your line stats?

2.2 km from exchange

SNR at the moment 5-6, but was 27 when I was on 1 meg.

Attenuation 51db

I could only get 1meg before so this 4meg+ is great :)

ime 220 metres from my exchange and i got quoted 6.5mbps and up,if that helps.

cheers.

Ok firstly your line length won't be the same as your distance from the exchange, but I think this has already been established ;). Secondly, the estimater will estimate the lower bound of the connection speed you're likely to get, so that BT don't have a load of upset customers who don't get the speeds they're predicted.

well i emailed tiscali about adsl max and this is their reply...

"Thank you for contacting Tiscali Customer Support.

I understand from your email that you wish to know about the BT ADSL max.

I would like to tell you that Tiscali is planning to the start the ADSL max in near future and it is working with closely with BT engineers in this regard so that we can provide the higher connection speed packages to our customers in near future.

However, I will not be able to comment on time line as when this new connections of higher speed will be provided."

i dont like the way they say "packages" it makes them sound like they will be charging:nono:

i hope they dont.

cheers.

Well sync speed and connected speed wont be same for further month or as in user specific upto 10 days when max dsl is started as BT will keep an eye on your connection and if you are dropping connections and having sync problems BT will reduce the speed until your line is fully supporting the speed.

this i know, was just saying that its now synced at 8000 odd. not expecting full speed.

Hmmmm. A bit worried here.

Amazingly I got regraded overnight ! However, although I'm sync'd at 7936kbps down and 448kbps up, my actual speed shown via adslguide has dropped to 602-877kbs  :( Upstream has at least increased to 389kbps. However, I used to get 2272/288 with 2mb...

Anyone else got the same experience ? I've tried rebooting the modem/router to no avail.

Check with another speed-test sites to make sure it is the line and not the speed-checker fault.

i was at home for 5 minutes, tried downloading a file, it still downloaded at 2mb speeds even though i was synced at 8000ish. i should be able to get more than 2mb speeds with my line stats, so im thinking the regrade isnt complete as of yet. but i'll test more when i get home tonight.

You might be right as the process can take anywhere between 24 hours to 5 days , however i am not sure which modem/router you have or this might not apply to your case but certain modems needs a new driver to enable 4mb and over speeds which so far i have seen this with alcatel modems where driver installation gives you both options to select from.

Hmm, I've heard its upto 10 days rather than 3.

It's 10 days for BT to determine what speed your line can sensibly sustain using their RAMBO stuff, but up to 3 days for the Data Rate to go up from 2meg after you are first regraded to max.

Your sync rate may be going up and down all the time, this is the RAMBO checking how fast your line can go without dropping, but you could be on a 2meg download speed becuase of this Data Rate.

The article says it could take up to 3 days from first being regraded to MAX for the Data Rate to be lifted above 2meg, but I think it's only affecting some people.
