Just a quick question since i3 2120 are coming down in price are they worth picking up for some who is getting into pc gaming?

I did do a quick Google but it seems like every time this question is asked you get a few folk jumping on stating you must buy a i5 2500k and not giving a valid reason,I even asked my friend who works with computers and he branded the i3 for lite internet use and nothing more

..

I also checked some reviews and it seems fine but they are abit out dated

reason Im asking is my neighbour wants to get into pc gaming nothing extreme just low to midrange, once ivy bridge is out hes going to give the sandy bridge system to his son and build him self a ivy bridge system...

So I was gonna suggest a i3 2120 and a 6870 or a gtx 560...

so back to my questions are i3 2120s really worth every penny ? is my suggestion of the i3 and gpus fine?.

It's not the highest performer out there, but it will be pretty decent. For reference, I game on a core 2 duo on my laptop, and that handles almost all games at high or very high, so a faster chip with hyperthreading will easily cope with most games.

I know someone who has the i3 2100 and he hasn't faced any performance issues with games really

I don't think you'll have too many problems with the i3 21xx playing games. I just think that we are a bit spoilt because SB is so fast especially the 2500K. Have a look at this benchmark, I've compared the Q6600 with the i3 2100. The i3 beats the snot out of it in almost everything. Most games still only make use of 2 cores anyway.

if it was overclockable then I wouldn't need a CPU upgrade in a long time, but you do see the difference when moving from a 2500k to a 2120 in games and in processing times.

i have it in place so i can jump to Ivy bridge ASAP
