Well MS are making an OS that will be fully 3d so they are making a new version of DirectX that will require new Hardware to run. But that's a while away seeing as Lonhorn is still in early Beta stages.... :p
 
yep go with it then! lol you can certainatly aford too!

and as for the operating system, windows xp x64 will be current for quite a while yet!

i was refering to the 3D Visuality in the next Microsoft OS which will need a WGF2 (DX10) enabled vga to be viewed ( according to microsoft ) but anyway if you don't wana wait just buy 2x6800ultras and when longhorn is out you use it in a non 3D way.

EDIT: Longhorn will be out in 2006 so time will pass and i don't know when the vgas will be out ( i think no one knows )
 
ok............... so would it be betta to wait or ignore the 3d and set it all up now?

when the 3d thing arrives in 2006 cant i just buy the WGF2 (DX10) enabled vga on its own?

no lol. like moving windows to the back, turning them, new effects, turning windows into balls ( lol i don't think this is true loool i invented it lol ) but it's gonna be something like Apple's Mac OSX.

This rumour is true.

Microsoft want to make an OS that is fully 3d in all areas. They want crappy visual effects and everything.

So - yes this will happen....when they have the software is one thing and when there is the hardware/driver support is another.

I woulod say if you keep waiting for stuff you'll be waiting forever. Dual 6800Ultra's will serve you well for some time yet :)
 
yes you can buy 2x6800 ultra and if you like buy another vga for the 3d effects of longhorn in tihe future if a year by now. and limqareb yes i like "lolling" if thats what you call it ( lol ). il find a screenie which i once saw about the 3D windows lol :D
 
Longhorn used a 3d rendering system to display its windows, icons etc this allows very nice transperency effects and gliding movments to be used.

longhorn requires a DX9 graphics card with DX10 drivers

Avalon is basically a DX 10 UI and is in the beta stages it will be released before Longhorn <on the Xp platform>

Longhorn also includes a Database fot your files with lots of Metadata <winFS> this will allow you to find any files on your system based on a keyword / metadata or content search -- imagine a SQL database for all your files this does of course mean that longhorns Min memory requirement is 512MB but thats a microsoft beta stage estimation and the amount of ram needed is related to the amount of files you have so expect around .75 Gb by the time longhorn is released (for smooth operation)

I saw all that and more in Custom PC magazine a few months back.

It is as I said...2 x 6800Ultra's will handle anything coming for a while now! (especially if ya get 2 x 512mb Ultras) :worship:
 
that search utility is kind of like google desktop?? indexes all of your files?? or is it more "live" in the way that they are instantly added to the database when created.

1 x Thermalright XP-90C or XP-120 w/ appropriate fan

2 x Dual Layer DVD-RW

1 x Hyundai L90D+ 8ms 19" TFT (omfg teh r0x0rs!!!!)

Your choice of keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc....

That oughta do ya pretty fuckin' well my friend :D
