Help - iPhone 4 Blocking SIM

Hi guys,

I need your help, I sold my iPhone 4 because I bought my Mum an iPhone 5, since the contract on the 4 is due to finish (it's my contract/old phone).

I sold it on eBay for £135, the woman has received it but when she puts her 3 SIM Card in (The phone was a contract with 3) it's telling her no SIM inserted.

I've given her the IMEI number, she'll try that when she's back home. What else could it be? Do 3 block it from using any other SIM?

I'm guessing it will do this to my Samsung S3 when I sell that also, which I will do soon because I have a Sony Xperia Z now.

Any help appreciated, obviously I don't want to have to give a refund.

I doubt carriers still lock phones to just one SIM, they tend to lock to their network.
Try this

  • Toggle Airplane mode On and Off.
  • Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, a prompt will appear.
  • remove the SIM card, clean it lightly using a dry cloth, ensure that there is no debris in the SIM slot, then reinsert the card
  • this or this

Where did you get the S3 from? If it's from a carrier shop it's probably locked to their network, but if it's from Carphone Warehouse(or any other store that carry multiple carriers) it's probably unlocked.
Anyway it's quite easy to unlock the S3, just search it on the xda forums.

Thanks for the reply, I'll let her know this if the EMEI doesn't work for her.

The S3 was from three.co.uk so it will just be locked to the 3 network.

Edit: Okay I'm just going to refund her because she's doing my headin. I've sent her different ways of sorting it, I've contacted Three and they say it's open to both pay as you go and pay monthly, they checked my EMEI number and it's fine. I gave up the moment she said "I don't have time to Google, I'm a Mum" well do one then, don't call me a liar that it doesn't work when it does, don't say it's listed as working when it isn't, don't tell me you can't be bothered to go to a Three store. F U!
