Gtx 480 sli

I tried plugging the second monitor into the second card, Nvidia control panel found it ok, but wouldn't display anything on that monitor as it was connected to different card than the first....

How do people have about 6 monitors plugged in, if you can't connect to the other card in SLI?

For 6 monitors you would need Eyefinity 6 OR 2 normal 5000 series cards OR 3 of any cards in non sli/crossfire would be the only way for 6.

A friend of mine uses a gtx275 sli with 2 monitors + has a 9400gt i think it is going to his tv, And in theory if you have enough pcie slots you could have 2/3/(4?) way sli/crossfire with 2/3/6 monitors and an extra card for extra monitors.

So mabey:

5870 eyefinity 6 + 3 normal/eyefinity 6 5870's + up to 3 eyefinity 6 cards/any 5000 series/any normal 2 port card for the extra 2/3/6 monitors per card, they would all have to be watercooled tho to bring them down to single slot and in a mobo like the asus p6t7, would put a hell of alot of strain on the cooling aswell, but you could IN THEORY have 4way crossfire + 24 monitors

I was using 6 as an example......

I want to connect 2 monitors without the clocks going up so high, it make the temp rock in idle

Anyone got any idea's?

Ahh, i have no idea why its messing with clocks/temps, ivei had my tv and monitor on and it didnt affect it in the slightest, ive even had a film on the tv while playing games on the monitor a few times and it didnt make much impact to either if any at all (done it when i had 4850 CF and on this 8800gt).

what do you guys think of UltraMon for enabling/disabling multiple monitors??? will it bugger the card up keep doing this, say like disabling second monitor at night

nope not at all, ive seemed to enable and disable my tv atleast once a day for the past 11 months or so and noticed 0 difference

just tested it and it makes no dif, as soon as you put 2 cards in it kicks up the 2d clocks hayles. So just get them under water. Without playing about more there is no quick answer - hint try the 2d clock settings

I installed it last night aswell, and when you disable the second monitor the temps & clocks go down..... But is it safe to keep doing it?????

I will be watercooling very soon though...

Thats the way its designed Hayles and you cant really do anything about it. Just keep the receipts handy incase :p

Older cards had a bios issue in which when you used 2 monitors on them, they'd not drop down to desktop clock speeds.

After the preview cards were issued, nVidia circulated a notice for testers to upgrade the bios(es), which amoungst a number of other things, allowed the dropping down to 2d/desktop speeds and ran the cards cooler (i.e. pumping the fans more!)

(which 'could' be why ur happier with the noise atm :p)

The preview and 1st released cards aren't exactly mint ootb.

EDIT: meant to say. The initial bios was something like xx.xx.10.xx. Since there have been updates up to xx.xx.1A.xx. 19 was the last one I tested, but I'm sure 1A is the release one.

There 'should' be a white sticker, usually on the base of the plastic shroud saying BIOS:xx.xx etc (sometimes they're on the rear of the card, but they used to fall off). If there's no sticker, it's likely to be 10.

I meant to say is using UltraMon to disable / enable the second monitor, will that program do any damage.... keep going back and forth??

If ur gonna w8, without saying too much, keep an eye on MSI & Palit non-reference stuff. ASUS gear is going to be a little longer I feel.

Palit will be the cheaper. The 470 is really the competition for the 5870.
