Geeks Christmas

I know it's a short while off yet but I'm getting that Christmas feeling and curious if anybody is after some tech treats this Christmas, anything at all, not strictly PC hardware.

Anybody hoping to receive something nice or buying it for yourself as a well earned gift?

I'm not sure if there is anything tech related that I want, I think I'm good for the moment, only thing I could possibly do with is some gaming cans. Maybe add HDD for storage space for photos, music, videos etc.

Actually sod it, lets just make the thread open for anything, tech related or not!

:)

Hopefully Nvidia will drop the price on the 780's again in light of the 290 .. might treat myself to a 2nd..

That'll be a nice item to purchase! When I was in college I got my HD 4870 and a Coolermaster PSU, was made up, it was the top card at the time apart from the 4870 X2. Left 4 Dead maxed out was looovely.

I might do a bit of research on Crossfire and could look at getting a second 7970, I'll only get it though if it's worth it.

Tech wise the one I am most likely to grab myself is an SSD. As nice as a new PSU or CPU would be, they Samsung 250GB drives are calling me

Think that would be a worthwhile upgrade. Even just when you see Windows boot up, it goes from the Motherboard vendor, boot screen to your desktop or login screen, occasionally a single spin on the Windows 8 screen and your in.

Having just got into airsoft I will most likely be asking for some gear to complete a nice little loadout now that i'm starting to play more often. When i get a job though (recent grad here) I think my first purchase will be a nice graphics card. Most likely a 780 or Ti if i can afford it

Have you gotten your UKARA yet? Also advice from me, if you buy gloves and they say "Fire proof" they aren't. I got some years ago when I played a bit and not that long ago really I binned it all so I tried it out with a lighter and they caught fire and melted away lol. Didn't bother me as they were going in the bin, but I thought for years they were fire proof.

Haha nah I've never assumed the gloves would be fireproof. Yeah got my UKARA and a bloody nice gun if i do say so myself (Marui HK416 recoil). Picked up some gloves this week actually

im after i new tv funnily enough, i been putting it off in the hopes that 4K comes down in price, but its not come down as much as i thought and content is lacking at the moment.

so i been looking at high end samsungs/lg ~47" anything bigger and it might be uncomfortable to watch in terms of viewing distance

http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-55LA860W

http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UE46F8000STXXU

i prefer the design of the LG, but we see what happens, that'll be my xmas present for myself

if anyone has anymore recommendations around the £1500 mark, let me know ill look into it

MrKambo with his little stocking filler there. :p

Edit: Out the two I'd go Samsung, looks nice although there are stories of Samsung screens dying. Go Panasonic!

gonna be honest its very rare that i treat myself excluding my rig thats my little space and any spare cash i have i put into the rig, i dont get much time for myself because of work, but i do watch blurays on the weekends and my low end LG is starting to show its age, its 3 years old now and the backlight is starting to bleed and all sorts.

so thought f it, might as well get something decent and enjoy it as much as i can. its probably the only thing ill get that is tech

It'll deffinetly be a nice gift to yourself whichever one you choose! My Mum called me the other day to say she's getting a 4k TV (just to wind me up) but as soon as she said 4k I just laughed like yeah okay, do you know how much they are. I think my parents will be looking to get a new one next year, they'll probably get the Panasonic after mine when they release the new one. :(

Edit: Phahaha! 35 grand! http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dv...rt-3d-4k-ultra-hd-85-led-tv-21485731-pdt.html

i was actually in curry's few weeks ago and they had the 65" Bravia 4K tv on display, and i wont lie, the clarity and sharpness is breathtaking and mesmerizing! i stood there and watched the life of pi trailer about 9000 times, and i was very tempted to enquire about it, then i realised everyone that works at curry's knows nothing about anything and walked out

Lol! I've never seen a 4k TV, I literally can't imagine how much clearer it could be, 1080 is almost crystal clear but 4k probably makes 1080 look like a video cassete!

That's too much though spending around 5k on a TV, I mean if you can afford it then great. What content can you get in 4k though? TV isn't broadcast and Blu-ray aren't 4k yet are they, does it upscale them?

I might have a think of treating myself to something come to think of it, I'm waiting until the next payday then I'm going to put a few things on eBay which will be when people are looking for Christmas presents!

I've got a Samsung Galaxy S3 to sell, that should get me near £200, I'm going to sell my Dr. Dre Beats Solo HD's (SuB better not see this ;)) just because I have the other better pair plus I've got this autographed board from a female wrestler from TNA from Bound For Glory (there version of Wrestlemania) which cost me a fair bit of money, it was the first item I ever bought on eBay so got sucked into a bidding war and paid like £150 for it! If I can fetch good money for them I could buy a second graphics card or something, a sound card and some gamer cans maybe.

Theres no such thing as too much when it comes to tech, the reason HD is cheap in comparison because it became cheap to manufacture, i cant imagine the yield of 4K displays to be plentiful at this current time.

i think im not sure, TV broadcasts are 1080i and blurays are 1080p, ive not seen anything that says we can get 1080p over sky or virgin, unless im wrong. but im sure ill be corrected if so.

but the way it works everything is upscaled to the maximum viewing capacity, unless its natively supported.

The prices are crazy, unless your playing for Manchester United, you aint getting one of them!

I don't know the difference really between i and p but your right MrKambo, Sky does only go up to 1080i, I'll be getting rid of my Sky subscription next month to save some £.

I may be wrong but hasn't i got something to do with upscaling whereas P is pure pixel density
