FX57 SD vs Athlon X2 4800+

As title, which one would you go for? I'm looking at upgrading my processer, theres no real need - but i want to :p

Im in one of my indecisive moods again and i really don't know which one to go for. The FX57 was my initial choice, but after reading some reviews and some threads on other forums i have seen people getting incredible performance out of there X2 4400+'s which means the 4800 should be awesome. The 4800 could also be classed as the more 'future proof' but then you could argue nothing is nowadays lol.

If you had the option, which one would you go for?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks alot

One of the main reasons for me consider the 4800X2 was the fact i will be using my PC less for games and more for encoding/editing etc and generals windows usage. In saying that, the FX57 is still the fastest single core cpu on the planet and it does come unlocked which is always a good thing.

Any other views guys?
 
For your computer use I'd say get an X2. Its nice when gaming also as you have assign all windows services, virus checkers and pretty much everything to one core and stick just the game on the other.
 
Yup I agree with Nick, both cpus are amazing but if ur going to be split between games and video work the X2 probably shades it. Plus over time as more code is written to take advantage the dual processors the advantage of the X2 will increase ...

I am getting a 4800+ hopefully this week so with luck will be able to post some results next week, although as an AMD newbie I might need a bit of help clocking the DFI and GSkill LE RAM :o

Hows it going? I think you may have made me change my mind, as i was gonna go for the FX57. I like the idea of one core solely to run a game...and the other core doing the rest.

Let me know how yours is going...it would be much appreciated.

Bought the 4400+ actually, couldn't justify the extra price tag for 200Mhz (am a student after all :p ) Having a few memory issues at the moment but once I get it sorted I'll let you know how it goes.

Cool, what stepping?

Iam stable at 2600mhz, with only a 0.65 Vcore bump.
