Future competition format ideas

What I think kind of angers some people is how new people signup just for the competition and win. I think we should have a post limit or something. If you want everyone to be able to win, then you can put like a post limit on prizes.

Example, in the last competition, it could've been like this:

8800GTS - Atleast 1 month membership and 100 quality posts

WC Kit- Atleast 1 month membership and 75 quality posts

500GB HDD-No restrictions

etc..etc

I totally agree :)

That is one of the reasons why I suggested doing something with more involvement. I think out of the last 3 competitions, 2 of them have been won by people with a low post count etc.

I have to honest with u guyz, even if I may have some similar snifters to some of the things u`r mentioning - I`m completely not gonna discuss the pitfalls of the competition(s) past and how more evenly the prizes could have been summized.

It may all well be fair comments and some valid points, but I aire on the side that the hosts (Kemp, XMS,..) would possibly, -personally-, think in similar lines. However, they do have to think in the broad spectrum of the client base new and old, at the end of the day business is business - without it OC3D could possibly not exist, u`r talking hit counts, ad revenue and so on, running it as a private concern with all the personal touches holding true it may not have lasted as long as it has and will.

That aside, competitions are a draw (a pulling draw I mean), everyone knows there will be a % that will be here for a limited time, but from that % another, smaller %, will stay for the long haul - and its those peoples that the forum will cherish as a result of the competition as a whole.

Supporters such as the supplier/manufacturer\partners appreciate that just as much as the hosts. And within the partnership should hopefully develope in more popularity, more sales, more revenue and in combination more prestigue for the website/OC3D in turn. Then the cycle continues, another (I have to say) outstanding competition bunch of prizes.

On the one hand, I know what u`r saying, on the other hand I`d stick anything debatable about the process in perhaps the Suggestion section - probably out of respect for the hosts (tbh those are too strong a set of words than I wanted to use, but I appreciate we`re all m8s around here - lol hopefully ;) )

In the same breathe, just as the competition entry section has developed, I can assure u 2000% that all aspects of the competition, and past competitions, will be taken apart behind the scenes in all terms, pros, cons, new idea/stuff - AND "something some1 mentioned in the Suggestion section" - each time a competition ends.

Meh, just adding a few cents, maybe I`m just asking if we can discuss it outside of the competition thread itself, atleast :)

Love and best wishes,

Kreig.

ps. I appologize if this reads out of context, it`s not my aim.

Love the way you type your ideas up. Tis truely an art seriously :)

Yeah, if we have any suggestions guys (im with vader on this one 100% especially with post count) i think we should start a thread in suggestions. If not then lets not dirty this wonderful occasion where some people won prizes with our ideas. :)

I think this is the main thing, OC3D is a business. But it is also a community

I got lost thru the rest of the post.

But I'm not sure if one of the comments was aimed directly at me or chudley :(

I am new here, so feel free to ignore me.

But I don’t think this would be a good idea, we are trying to entice people to join OC3D, for some people the ideas of a free prize is enough, for others a well written guide and the people with the knowledge to help follow that guide is enough, and then you have the rest, who just enter and forget.

The best way to keep people excited and interested with something is to have goals, milestones if you will, the discounts and specials with places like specialtech, tekheads, watercoolingshop and sidewider are a great start, get to the post limit, but then what? There is nothing to keep them going. This is what we have to look at, not what the competitions are, or how they are scored/run. Maybe things like reward points, for writing a guide/review or helping fellow members out, where you get points that you can use to get special members only deals, or something.

Well, as it states at the top, feel free to ignore my babble, most people do ;)

Totally agreed that once you hit the magic 25 posts, there's not really much left to work on. This is something all of us mods and admins are putting out heads together to work on.

Clearly the easiest one would be to change the rules around our partner discount scheme (ST, WCShop..etc) to make it so that users need to have increased their post count by 25 posts per order.

Obviously we are looking into other ideas as well ;)

I'm going to move these posts to a new thread.

Not sure ifthis is the right place topost as you said you were moving but - wouldnt the extra 25 posts per order encourage spamming?

out of interest I have yet to order but have saved up my posts, can i cash them in for extra discount :p

what about a sort of photography competition. aim would be to either take the best pic of your pc, or "sum up online life" or some sort of themed thing.

we wont judge it on the best camera etc, judge it on content rather than quality and everybody has a digi camera or a phone...

thoughts?

Snifters are like tidbits, a small piece taken.

No aiming, I`d never aim, I`d miss ! :)

Now - with all the extremely well setup rigs, I`m amazed they don`t take more of a part in procedings.

So you simply point in them in the right direction and hope they find their mark?

No, I lock and load, hail the Garry Owen and run around spraying with one hand over my eyes, cigar in mouth, until the clips empty - then see who didn`t hear me warn them.
