Fiber in the uk

Where I work (one of the Cambridge colleges) Our fiber brings 60 Mb/s up and roughly 60-70 Mb/s down. Most (if not, all) Universities are getting fiber, its just some don't have the budget right now to upgrade the various bits and pieces within the colleges themselves to make full use of fiber.

I wish upload on ADSL was better, It's killing me currently!! 3 hours for a 15 minute video to upload :(

I wish my uni accommodation had fiber(or faster fiber if it already has it). Currently getting 8Mb down and up here, just coming from 30Mb down/2Mb up at home this feels really slow!

Just placed an order to upgrade from Sky Unlimited (£7.50 pm) to Sky Fibre Unlimited (£20 pm) I really hope it's a worthwhile upgrade. It's a massive jump in price when it brings your total Sky package to £102 pm. Kind of nervous.

What download speeds wer you getting on adsl? Cos that is what is gonna justify the price for ya, along with the upload speeds of course

Erm I'm not to sure to be honest, being honest I don't know how to measure it as well, if I'm downloading a game on Origin it's a different reading to downloading something on a Torrent downloader...

My download is supposed to be 17MB, I used the (What was it's name) Atheros Network do dar that was with my motherboard and it was confirmed at 17 but if I'm downloading a Torrent it's quickest is like 1MB?

Edit: I'm supposed to get 40 with Fibre, although terms and conditions say 38 lol?

I'll do that tonight, and then I'll post it up and then run the test again when I get fibre. Probably be next week? Got to despatch the new router to me.

And arrange for a bt open reach engineer to come and fit a new wall plate and set up the line at the exchange.

And then ya gonna he rocking 40ish mb fibre,

Back before I had fibre our adsl speed was 2mb..... So to jump to 60+ Mbps was kinda mental, you will still get a nice jump tho

Well this is the good thing with the new Sky router...you don't need an engineer visit!

That's good that the landlord is getting fibre put in. I don't know what my mate has but he says it's shocking and the router is locked away so he can't even have a look.

Your connection is usually rated at Mbit/s. Torrent programms usually display dowload speeds at MB(yte)/s if you want to get from Mbit/s to MB/s you have to divide by 8.

Fibre went live today just done a speed test and got this. Ten days they will be testing for the fastest stable connection though.
