I'm

Looking to ditch my old MyBooks and would like to buy a 2 or 3 TB internal HDD for storing all my data. What would be the fastest drive with that much storage?

Feel free to list multiple drives with less capacity (if buying two is cheaper than one larger one), best drives for the value and performance, and all around fastest drive (ignoring costs).

Thanks.

I bought the wd black 2tb. I havent installed it yet but from the specsheet it was impressive as heck also yasharikan swears by them. And advises everyone to get one. They perform well and are not too expensive mine was 100 from ocuk. I think mine was on offer whn i got it

wd black cant beat them without going ssd. Plus WD's support is top notch RMA'd a 640Gb drive when I fubared it they replaced it with a 1TB I sold it on another forum and well didnt test before shipping was reported dead back to me and returned so I could rma it again they just completed the rma again and this time there sending a 2TB model lol I just pm'd the buyer to tell him of his good fortunes, he got a 2tb drive for 60$ lol

For just data storage you really dont need a very fast hdd.A 5400 rpm disk should do. Im using WD greens for my storage(my signature). Bought them 1 year ago and they run very cool & quiet.

The samsung spinpoint F4 might be good also, but i have never seen any benches of that one. Maybe worth to check that one before you order?

Cheapest and the best "deal" I'd go for.

Depending on the MyBook you have ofc. Whether it connects eSATA or USB/Firewire/Eth. If it's the latter just go for cheap (cos the end result access speeds will be alot less than a sata harddrive even if you did ssd it).

WD FTW tho. Settled on them as a preference for quite a while now.

Also consider power options. If your MyBook requires an ac adapter it won't be too much of a concern, but if it relies on usb power or similar from the pc, the lower rpm (5400 etc) will/should require less. Even the ac adapter ones will have some limitations.

(Over drawing power from the pc will either knacker the harddrive and/or your mobo's usb power line)

I'm using it constantly for storing of my video footage. I edit a lot of media.
