hi, i had to re-install windows 7 last week, have only just got round to playing fc3, i don't know why, but on a similar oc (1150mhz, 1340mem) on my 7870, i used to get about 30-35fps i now get 50-60fps... anyone else seen this kind of increase?

You are doing something different for sure impossible increase.. You probably went from 2xmsaa to 0 msaa or you changed CCC Supersample to Multisample. Or maybe you didn't have your drivers installed properly on the old installation.

I wish I had that sort of increase. It runs like crap on my ridiculous build. I believe microstutter is what I am experiencing but super annoying. Peaks and troughs. Fc3 is the only game I have trouble with so far on sli

We'll from what we've seen from benchmarks thus far this is pretty much confirmed coded to run best with a bulldozer architecture(we are seeing this more and more now). Maybe AMD were onto something when they decided to vastly stray away from the traditional multi core architecture perhaps they want a CPU war that's on the same lines of Radeon VS GTX instead of Phenom vs i7 as it's been massively unsuccessful even when AMD have pulled ahead in the horsepower race.

FC3 is a funny one. It ran CRAP for me to start with. However, after changing the settings to something I did NOT want, before going back to what I originally had and DID want, it started running great - for the most part.

The weird thing is that every now and again the FPS plummets for a few seconds. I checked what was going on, monitoring stuff on my 2nd screen and both CPU and GPU usage DROPS when these issues occur - so it's not the CPU or GPU getting overloaded. Moreover, I can be standing still, watching a scene at 60fps when suddenly it drops for no apparrent reason. My GPU memory doesn't appear to be getting hammered particularly, it's not near max when this happens, nor is there any obvious loading going on.

I do think that the game needs some more optimisation or possibly tweaks to drivers before it plays consistantly as it should. The thing is, the engine isn't that pretty really is it? Some of the character / face models are great sure, but generally it's fairly unimpressive. I'd say Just Cause 2 looks better for the most part, and that's pretty old now by comparison.

Completely off topic but could this have something to do with bulldozer being used in the next gen consoles (Read this somewhere)..?
Maybe games are getting optimized for bulldozer/piledriver because the consoles will be backwards compatible..?
Sorry, just a few thoughts ;)

@IBeInspire

I wondered if it was down to FC3 being multi-threaded in such a way that it has more threads, but each is lighter, lending its self to Bulldozers strengths. Just a guess. Also, DX11 having the potential to multi-thread can't hurt.

Either way, it's a good sign that Bulldozer can perform, especially in an AAA title such as this. Also, as more and more titles embrace multi-core CPU's this has got to keep improving. Let's face it, any game developed over the last few year should be at least aware of the existance of more than one core :)

Fair points :)
Parallelism is the way forward after all ;)

I had a problem with Far Cry 3. Every time I played it my graphics drivers would not respond and would then blue screen. I didn't end up fixing this because I had already completed the game before this error started to occur
