Elite: Dangerous - Have we found the next Crysis?

Just tested my ~10 year old Logitech Attack 3. Worked flawlessly with Star Citizen and Elite. I didn't expect that.

Thanks to SeekaX for pointing me towards this thread ;)

Really interested in this game, played the crap outta the original Elite way way back in the days of the C64. Haven't played any of the sequels due to being drawn away from pc gaming to consoles ... but now I have seen the light, ditched the consoles and built a semi decent rig ( i5-4670k @ 4.3GHz / GTX 770 4GB ) :)

Have any of you guys tried playing it with an Xbox 360 controller? Thats my only real option for gaming as I have no desk to sit at so joysticks / hotas and mouse / keyboard setup is a pita and uncomfortable. Is it playable with an xbox controller at all?
 
What's holding me from buying the game is I also need to get the Hotas system Sub has linked earlier in the thread to really enjoy the game. Now the expense isn't a huge issue but its just i have never used one before(nor a racing wheel tbh). So its kind of a huge expense for something i may not like(including the game).

In regards to the 360 controller.. there is no point in not getting anything but a flight kit.. otherwise its just kind of pointless to be playing it on a PC. Besides the Hotas system the Sub linked is just as expensive as a 360 controller.

I have my 16 year old Sidewinder setup, which is in the garage just need a new power pack for the forcefeedback. Going to be watching on tues for the twitch stream again before I set my purchase in stone.
 
thanks, I won't bother with the game then. Price isn't an issue .. I can afford a kick ass hotas set up .. just have no desk or gaming chair set up to use it on (and no intention of getting either). Cheers for the advice ;)
 
I'm experimenting with my Hotas now on Flight Sim. I can take off, fly around. Good enough for me.

Had a go on Elite: Dangerous.

Had a fight with an asteroid and lost. 10/10

Honestly I'm hearing people are also enjoying it with a 360 controller. Not heard anything bad about it at all :)

It might be worth waiting to see if they release a demo or something and see if you like it first, perhaps not worth pre-ordering or anything though.

There's loads of threads on their forums about different control methods, you should go take a looksee.

I only say use hotas because that's what I've got and that's what I'm used to and it's excellent :) there are of course other options, it's just the way the control scheme is setup, there are a lot o buttons to setup, but I'm sure you could setup the basics on a controller. I wouldn't not-play it just because no-one here knows if the controller method you want to try is any good.

There are likely to be other streams up from other people in the flight wing (haha i'm so calling it that) so will post links to those nearer the time if they're available.

Oh wow, I didn't realise they were in Cambridge. Tempted to order some merch and go cycle over and pick it up. ;)


Just bought the beta access and the expansion deal thing. You got a teamspeak for this, right?
 
right does the all expansion pack offer stop tomorrow, just so if i need to pick it up with what little money i have at the moment

edit: and yes, the multipass will expire tomorrow. GET ON IT!

Only if you want to get all the expansions content for that price, you don't *have* to but it's a cracking deal so makes sense.
