Cousin: Consoles Are Better Than PC's !

My brother once asked how I can stand using a mouse and keyboard to play first person shooters when the xbox 360 controller is so much better for it and has much better graphics.:confused::mad:

He was into one of the CoDs then so I fired it up on my PC, high res max details. He finally admitted that the graphics looked much better on my PC, but wouldn't give up on the controller.

The controller is useful for certain games I find but for most I prefer the good old M+K :)

Lol one of the CoD's. I like using the controller but it just takes time to get used to the mouse, I'm way out of practice using one for gaming but there ain't nothing wrong with the mouse.

Tbh you'd expect the consoles to run the current gen of CoDs as they look like they should run on a single core potato.

Get your facts right guys, it's a dual core potato!

Nah its technically single core as one core drives the camera so the NSA can peak at you in your underwear =00=
While the other is maxed out running a youtube video and a game.
Then again that might be me getting mixed up with the xbone.

Consoles have their place for sure. I prefer platformers and fighting games with a controller.

It really depends on the game for me. I grew up with consoles so there is some nostalgia there, but for the most part I just enjoy gaming so go for the best experience on a per game basis.

Me too, always great if your mates are round as well. That camera stuff is freaky though.

1st point.
i have a game pad, joystick, steering wheel and light gun for my pc, i use which ever controlls works best for the game. Including the kb and mouse. (just wanted to get that out of the way right there)

Now then. my main thing is.. you can spec up a amd system for about the console price 6300, 7970 like 4gb ram 500-1tb hdd case cheap ass mother board and kb evga 430w psu, blu ray combo drive, and after marjket cooler "can even get a sedion 120 aio. but id probably go for a heat sink) it is a complete system for the price of a console. you cant get the windows os though.
and no monitor (but you dont get a tv with a console either) and if you shop arround you usually get a few games thrown in with the mother board and gpu..
case is going to be like a £12 case thoug..
but for the same price you can get a better pc in terms of raw power.
and then games are cheaper with steam sale and everything..

But to me. even if i was on a budget. id try and spend that 200 or so more than i would on a console get a slightly better cpu.
that 200 more you spent will get recouperated in no time with steam sales.
then there is failure rates.
quite a few consoles fail after warranty and the prices dont really come down on the things. i would generally say 33% of people will have to buy 3 consoles during its 8 year life span a futher 27% will buy 2 and the remaining 40 or so percent will either give up after the 1st one dies or theirs will survive the long haull..

personally.. I had a Q6600 as my main rig for about 7 years.
i had a 3850, 4870. 5770 and then a 7850 in it. (i have the 7850 now)
i did not pay more than £50 for any of the cards as i usually buy them used. or i sell my old one and then add money to buy the new one.
So i guess in 7 years i spent £200 on upgrades to the Q6600 and it really didnt need the 7850 as it was pretty maxed out with the 5770.
Even today there isnt a game i couldnt play with that system, (even though it wouldnt be maxed out with AA and af..) they would all be playable well above the 30fps console target.
So to me. a console will cost more over a 8 year life span.
and that was before the I seriese of cpu's came allong..
if any one here knows why you would NEED to upgrade from say an i7-3770k in the foreseeable future let me know. because i dont see a single reason why any one would need to. or even a 2600k for that matter..

its all good and fine that we do like to upgrade and we like to get the best gpu we can. but its not like we need to..
I can almost guarantee a 5770 could play any game there is at better than console levels now with a 1st gen i7 (1080p medium details 2x aa reall basic stuff)
So i dont buy that consoles need to be upgraded less often argument either.
if your a console gamer you are more than likley going to have bought atleast 2 of the things in its 8 year life span. which will work out as about the same as buying a reasonably good pc "£600" and then upgrading the gpu once or twice over the same course of time "£100-£200"

and then if you factor in game prices and monthly online fees. a pc is a hell of a lot cheaper in terms of hardware.
Its a lot cheaper in terms of what you get for your money (ability to be productive)
and its a hell of a lot cheaper when it comes to games you can play.
Emulate consoles..
Id like to see a ps4 play psx, ps2 and modern AAA games. i know a pc can do it.
can also play wii games. game cube games, snes, nes megadrive, amiga, wonder-swan, game boy, neo geo.. "list goes on and on"

I know people love to compare the things. but they arent comparable. the pc just beats a console in every way shape and form.
The only way a console is better is if your 14 and you asked for one for christmas. Your more likley to get a console from your parents than you are to get a £400-£600 custom build, and if your not making a custom build your looking at probably £800-£900 for the same spec. and no one is going to spend that on little johnny to play games on for 3 hours a day after home work if hes been a good boy.

Any way thats my oppinion views and belief.
if you dont agree thats fine, but please dont try and tell me a console is better because of "a,b or c" because it isnt.

I don't know if you can count failure rates since how many of us here will use the same PC hardware for eight years? Not that many, it's a addictive bug of upgrading every other year or less.

thats us though. not the hardware. the hardware is capable so you dont NEED to upgrade. which was the argument.
you WANT to upgrade lol. so i dismiss the "you dont need to upgrade a console as often" argument, because you dont need to upgrade a pc.
and if you do want to upgrade your gpu and stuff thats going to probably end up costing you less than when your console fails 4 years down the line..

I dunno, because we all tend to want and do upgrade the PC I'd like to see how long a PC can go being thrashed in games for eight years. Everything has a life span but it's difficult to put an estimate on that stuff.

The 360 was ridiculous for overheating and dying, mine did it and so did my PS3 because I got the first one out which was the 60GB which shortly after they discontinued it.

That being said there doesn't appear to be the same issue on the next-gens, at least not on a grand scale. At launch the PS4 had a number of bad batches but I've not heard anything about the Xbox Ones?

the problem with consoles is stupid things like the dvd dying = useless console.
like the original xbox if your hard disk died.. that was it game over "well was for those who didnt know how to mod them"
the ps2 liked to have failing power supplys. the first xbox did too but that was only the fox con ones which were a fire hazzard.
prior to that you had the 1st playstation that was one of the last consoles to be relitivly stable imo.
the older 16bit and prior to that consoles were a much better example of good life expectancy.
obviously thats looking at a lack of moving parts.

the heat issue was a huge thing with the ps3 and xbox 360. (i personally think thats why they use what is essentialy a 18w apu now in the newer gen consoles)
it reduces heat and should lower failure rates. but it also lowers the life expectancy of the console by placing it in a possition it hasnt been in for a very long time. (being less powerful than a pc at launch) if we look at the best of the specs of a console its basically a Under clocked MOBILE7970 (not just a mobile 7970 but a under clocked one) and then a 8 core jaguar apu.. it has slower clocks than say a 6300 and it may have more cores, but per core performance is worse and so is per clock performance.
The only thing a console has in its favour is game optimization. But that comes at a cost of more expensive games.
and exept for games like metro last light. the pc versions would get optimized allong the way with patches. or like in the case of last light they will release a refresh.
we also have huge communities of moders and tweakers who will get the best performance and textures etc out of our pc games even if the developers dont want to do it..

I used to love consoles. they used to have a reason. but honestly im not going to pay £400+ on a console then buy a £150 + steering wheel + £60 just to play forza. which if im honest is the ONLY console game i want to play.
instead i just bought a logitech wheel and and bought assetto corsa for £15 in the steam summer sale.

when i boil right down to the very funimentals of it. the only reason i would buy a console is for exclusive games that i want to play.
and if that is only one game it simply isnt worth the £500-£600 i would have to spend to play it..

Thats why I bought a PS4 really for exclusives, that being said I recently bought BF4 for it because its more stable which is a shame since I already own it on PC. EA have made like 160 from me with the Premium.

Also FIFA, thats going to be the same on PC as it is on console...but I'll probably buy it on console for the controller use. I've got the wireless 360 controller for the PC but the PS4 controller is much better.
