You`ve got some fine experienced guyz on here, all with cases full of knowledge for both the budget and price-is-no-object camps.

It`d be an interesting project if u had, for example all the mods (as a loose estimate of the knowledge cap, and the ability to adjust the thread(s) when need be), in a closed sticky thread somewhere - where they all have one post therein, where they compile their pc components of choice for both camps. Prehaps no budget and something around $800 (for example).

Maybe have monitors added to it.

I know alot of the dynamics of the forum involves itself around top-notch gear, but I have seen some budget requests from a number of areas.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what it is exactly that you're wanting...

Are you wanting the mods to start a thread and keep it updated with our top choice of components for both a budget build and an extreme "money is no object" build?

If so I think that's a great idea actually. Let me know if this is what you were thinkin' about.

I agree with Frag, your post is a bit unclear. Perhaps try re wording? If what Frag thinks is correct, then yes, it's a great idea. It'd be cool to have easy to chose from parts that are recommended.

I think thats it. Kind of a recommended set of parts for budget, med and extreme builds.

It would sure save a bunch of time answering the same questions over and over.

Another one is places to get stuff (small parts, plastic metal and different paints)

I think that's a fantastic idea. Such as parts for budgets, extreme builds etc. Also with sites for UK; US; AU; etc that have good deals and wide ranges of parts. Good job!

They have several such lists at the DFI forums, for RAM, PSUs, etc. They are quite helpful, especially for first time builders. Some shorts lists of known compatible & good quality parts in several different price ranges sounds good to me :)

i dont think its our place to tell people the exact parts they should use, and a quick browse through the rig gallery gives u lots of options of peoples low, mid and high spec builds.

Wirelessly posted (LG Fusic: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/2.0.4719/1378; en; U; ssr))

we wouldnt be putting guns to peoples heads and forcing them to buy what weve listed. it would be a great guideline/tool for helping with their decision imo.

I think I get the idea, but I think the problem is going to be putting it into a readable/understandable format.

Will it have the owners name, rig components and cost of parts in something like an excel type table or just owners name, components and cost in just a list?

I think having something like the following would be a great idea...

Budget PC - Under £400

Performance PC - Under £800

High-end PC - Under £2000

Ultimate PC - No price limit

Then we could select components such as CPU, Mobo, PSU, GPU... that we know work together well and offer the best performance and reliability in the budget.

Every month (or when something new is released) we could update the list.

Yup, that sounds like a reasonably good idea - especially the budget PC arena, as that can change week on week as things come on offer & the like.

Let's doooo it :)

I propose a single locked thread where we can each have one post listing our component choices for each of XMS' listed computers. Or should we allow discussion perhaps?

We could even possibly do a mini-article on it? Something that will re-appear on the homepage whenever we do major updates to it.

If anyone on the reviews/news/guides team want to take control of it, feel free. I would, but i'm up to my eyeballs in PSU's at the moment

Go for it then Frag...would you mind setting it up and reserving each of the mods a space for it?

dunno if Dave wants a space (he's a bit out of it hardware wise I'm sure he'll agree) but me, XMS, PV and you would deffo be a good idea.

Set it up with categories.

Is that ok for you to do Fragster?

I would venture that its something not entirely useful. Most people already have their pc's, and anyone wanting to upgrade has reviews already posted constantly or can ask about components they're thinking of buying. I know when I put together a pc, I look at whats new, whats compatible, and how much... which is half the fun for me, the other half being putting it together and then seeing how far I can push it. I'll ask questions if something doesn't seem right, read reviews and decide what works for others (and more importantly what doesn't work). If you want a budget pc... go to Wal-Mart ( or your countries equivalent). If you want mid-range to high-end, DIY and research, ask questions, then max that credit card and show your wives that men can spend just as much as they can!

i think a discussion would be best, better to make it a community thing and get peoples suggestions

how about a locked thread which each mod can edit, and a discussion thread where people can suggest and mods can then put those ideas into the locked thread.
