If they're not very good with PCs its a nightmare trying to show them how to use more than one hard drive in my experience. If they're not tech savvy just get one hard drive.

And also don't forget that an i3 has a better iGPU than the Pentium chips.

Its hardly rocket science if there that bad you can put a clickable link on the desktop to the second drive labled 'storage'

If i can teach my 75 year old dad to use linux mint for web browseing on his dinosaur laptop in 10mins explaining you have put a extra drive in the computer to store stuff isent going to be that hard.

The i3 from the Pentium cpu isn't a big jump up for iGPU though is it?
I thought it was more the fact that you get more functionality with the i3 and less about the iGPU quality.

Well done on that however that doesn't really prove anything, not everyone is the same and age isn't that big a factor imo.
Sadly not everyone can learn things/think straight on their own. I had to help a client when they rang up and complained that I'd not given them any hard drive space(They tried to install every single game they had on a 120gb ssd) despite me showing them how to put games on the other hard drive and even setting steam up so it gave them the choice of putting the games there.

Here is a comparison between both CPUs:

The Pentium could save you some money and maybe able to stick to the £250 budget, but if it was a personal build, I'd personally spend that bit more for the i3

Tom I would completely agree with you this does sound that way and the client knows I am not a professional, I am interested in building PC's as a professional though so I'm being productive and offering a build to order service, the issues I'm having are because I am used to building higher end pc's with a much higher budget I'm having a hard time finding good hardware for the lower end user.
To put your mind at rest I wont really be making any profit from the service for this build and I see this as an opportunity to add lower end builds to my portfolio.

My point was purely to say it sounded funny.

Making a profit is completely down to your and your mate / client

I know what you meant and its not a mate I don't know the bloke, anyway thats irrelevant.(reading this back, it reads a bit hostile, note it wasn't intended that way)

@Feronix I would also go for the i3 personally but I'm not sure how much the guy is willing to budge on his budget.

This whole thread is the reason I don't build for other people anymore, you make little to no money in this market as the little guy the competition is just far too high with the likes of ViBox & PC Specialist spitting out sub £300 systems.. unless you have top rep as a modder or clocker and build really special systems I can't see any profit these days.

But anyway like TTL said you should go down the cheap APU avenue for this build, get your monies worth happy shopping

I'm just doing it as a hobby for now, I have plans for some crazy builds soon that should turn a few heads but I agree with you the market is saturated by well established companies building low priced reliable machines, its almost impossible to get work unless you have a reason for people to buy from you.

Pentium graphics are 'Intel HD Graphics' where the i3 has got an Intel HD 4400 chip.
The graphics part of the Celeron and Pentium series are often not specifically mentioned so I'm assuming they're not worth writing about

An APU will be unnecessary. It will draw more power and produce more noise as the budget doesn't allow for an aftermarket cooling solution. Your client won't need the extra GPU power either.

Ahh okay, I have advised he sticks with the i3 anyway and not have the SSD.
I am now waiting for the final word so I can start buying hardware and building it.
