[Case Mod] Close Quarters

I love it, very unique.
That copper has made me dribble all over my desk lol.
Is there anything that needs to be considered when using copper in the pipes like you have?
Also the front panel how easy was that to get fabricated? I want to do something with my C70, including building a cage of sorts onto the top out of sheet brushed aluminium along with a similar front panel to yours but i will have vent holes for the fans but just a circle pattern for the dual fans a logo etched and new missile launch buttons for the on and off, with blue/red illuminations around the bases.

Sound too tacky?

Again love this effect.

Thanks, The copper tube is fairly easy to fit and bend. Just get a little extra for errors. Also you will need a good set of benders. You do not need a super expensive set but the cheap ones will kink and mar your tubes. I had to do some mods to my benders to prevent this. The front panel was not to difficult but the copper is not forgiving at all. I measures and drew a line with a pencil on some blue tape where I as going to cut the optical bay covers. I ended up changing my mind and left the front panel as one piece but the line I drew made a line in the copper that I was never able to get out.

Your project ideas sound good, how soon will you start this project? I love C70 build. I am still using my C70 build as my main PC.

Forgive me if you mentioned it somewhere, and I missed it, but is the front panel copper varnished somehow, or would it tarnish if it was touched often?

My first little project is to wire up some USB 3.0 headers as i have a spare on my mobo and will give my self 4 USB ports but i also have some suuuuppper tiny LED's they are about 1mm x 1.5mm and im thinking of tapping off of the 5V power supply and using them to back light the ports, its something i have not seen done so could be a first for me, ill be getting some usb 2.0 headers and having a go tomorrow night.
As im getting my 60w soldering station early for christmas lol ...

Im also looking at off setting the front and having two halves so its on those mag holders so you press it in to reveal the ports and stuff, the HDD indication light will be moved too, might use two of those SMLED's for power and the HDD

Do you think it would look odd with a 35mm Block on the top, as i want push pull on my h100i.

And that was why i asked about the pipes due to corrosion, i spose you could lacquer the front?

Backlit ports sounds cool :) I just got myself a new soldering iron too lol, I'm getting back into my electronics hobby which I stopped after GCSE.

Ah thats good to hear, where i work in maplin its just tempting me to do something brash on the case lol.

RS components will be a popular site for you then:D lol

And the only thing im worried about with the back lit ports is they all use a little resistance to see if there is something connected, and i need to make sure that the LED's are not going to cause an issue in that way.

Yes the pipes and the front panel have been clear coated to prevent tarnishing.

If it is done right I think it could look good. A good thing about the C70 is it is all metal and kind of boxy. It would be easy to blend in a top cover for the fans. You may also try to offset the H100 to get push pull inside the case.

I dont really have the option to drop the mobo to give me room for push pull thats why I thought about top mounting them.

and I know this is noobie but whats that res thing where the exhaust fan used to be?

Like you said, it's a reservoir; it's where the coolant is stored for the loop :)

That looks really really good! Reminds me of some 1950s style of house interior.

I feel like a little copper trim around the edge of the window would not look bad (?) :)

Thanks for all the support guys.

Did you try and offset the H100 towards the right side panel? this may get the H100 far enough from the motherboard to clear with push pull.

The res thing is a custom made reservoir that mounts onto a 120 fan location. I made this reservoir specifically for this build.

Feronix, I have considered making a copper trim piece to surround the window but no funds for the copper ATM. Perhaps when the funding is present I will get that done and put in a decent water cooled graphics card.

The home made water block is still running strong and keeps the CPU nice and cool.

I may give that a go tomoz when im not repairing laptops and remote control cars lol.

And i like that res, i think i might use checkered plate for the external parts that i wanna change, i like rigs that people invest not just time but a part of them selves.

One week in and the system is doing fine. I am still waiting for the new Alphacool water block but the acrylic replacement I made has been doing fine. :)

its weird like copper and oxidized copper O_o
amazing job!
how about sticker covering the ssd if its off warranty of course xD

I was thinking the same about the colour is just like oxidised copper.

Such an awesome build. Just seeing ones like this makes me wish I could afford to get a build going.
