:wavey: people,

Im currently looking into creating a new system and want to have a ssd as a boot drive and a hard-drive as a data drive but dont know how to set it up.

Are there any programmes or easy ways to go about it?

Clear tutorials are very welcome!:)

Thanks in advance

No need for any programming knowledge.

If you are going for a clean vista or windows 7 installation you can format the harddisks in the OS setup. You should arrive in the 'partition' section in the first series of settings, click the button 'advanced' (at the lower right iirc). There you can select the disk you want to use for the OS installation itself. For an SSD I'd recommend using the whole disk, no partitions.

Once you have installed windows you can format the normal harddisk using either the windows tools or a third party program.

Cheers for the quick reply!

Got me worried on how to do it as people i have talked to said its quite advanced.

Sounds easy enuf tho:)

Reps!

Once the OS is installed on the ssd and the second drive has been formatted how do i set it to save the data on the hard drive and not on the ssd?

Cheers

All programs will probably end up on your SSD right? In that case it's just a case of setting your download / ripping programs to put the data on the D:\ drive.

The one big problem I have with Vista and 7 is the saving of settings in a central place. This is always on the C: so you can't install most programs completely on another drive.

Ok thanks,

Where would i find the option to set the second hard drive as a data drive? Would i have to do manually for every programme whilst installing it?

Or is there a setting in xp64 so that it will automatically save everything to the e/f drive?

Im confused.com!:(

i think you can change it in the registry

HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion

ProgramFilesDir = "c:\Program Files"

change the above to the directory you want to use
