Avast releases four free Ransomware Decryption tools

Avast has released four free Ransomware Decryption tools to the public, allowing users to decrypt their data after an attack without paying the criminals involved.

Wow that is pretty awesome.
Is the only catch here you need to install avast to use these or is a standalone tool?

From what has been said, it would appear that the tool is free without the need for their software.

Probably a good idea to not have Ransomware on your PC to begin with by investing in a good A/V, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, should have you covered. The big rise in ransomware within a year is probably to do with torrent sites using them as ads as I somewhat scarily witnessed myself. I believe Kaspersky also just recently released a free ransomware program too.

Though torrenting is kinda pointless now with so many content/stream downloaders available unless you're after an old game or something.

I wonder how long until Avast starts to put Ad's into this software or makes it payed software.
