ASUS EAH5770 - rattlesnake noise?

Just got one of these off eBay (used, obviously) and noticed something weird when I ran a Unigine Heaven loop to test for stability: a sound I can only describe as a rattlesnake - very noticeable indeed. It comes up with other games - Far Cary 2, for example - but not as loud. Having just-this-minute run a 3DMark 2001 bench (no laughing), I heard some cap squeal as well.

The cap squeal I'm familiar with, but what's this rattlesnake business? Please check my specs below - I think my PSU can run that lot, but I'd be happy to be corrected. Bear in mind, my old 4770 never used to do it, and we're only talking an extra 30 W of juice on top of that.

Should I send this thing back? I've had my eye on a GTX650 for quite a while... maybe that's a better bet...

Could be a fan maybe? I would send it back, low end current GPU>Older equally as powerful GPU all day every day.

Should have said I checked for the fan - stopped it briefly with my finger, still rattling. I think it's a relay, tbh.

Anyway, it's going back, and I've ordered a brand new Gainward GTX 650 - better in pretty much every department and uses half the power;).

You guys want a laugh? Turns out I fried my perfectly-good 4770 as well! Remounted the heatsink to use it as a stopgap... ended up shorting some diodes on the die with excess thermal paste.

What a dingbat - there goes 25 quid on eBay. Lesson learned, though.
