Andre's X58 Personal Build

I have a MSI MPower Z77, and i just love it. i was not lucky in my CPU pickup :P - But the mobo just work like a truck, cant say anything bad on it.

If you stay on the 1366, i most say the 970 is just lovely. Had my first try on that today, one of my friend have it still. Even that he has 2011 also whit a 3960X on it.

I most say, that way to play whit the cpu. That is new to me, have never been doing OC before my 2500K and then my 3770K now.

do you mean you got a cpu that doesn't do very high core speeds with low voltages?

I really like the look of it! I haven't really heard anything bad either. I dont really like red or blue very much so I tend to stay away from motherboards with those color schemes. I would seriously consider getting another sabertooth board because i really like the colors used on those, but i really dont like the thermal armor on the z77 one. it has fake steel texture on it and i really hate fake textures, plus i dont really like the look of it being covered either.

i was really surprised to see the cinebench scores of the 990x & 3960x and 3930k. the scores really are quite close. i'm sure there are probably other things about the newer chips that are better, but just going by cinebench they are quite close.
the ebay thing isn't going to well for me right now though because im in toronto and most of the sellers only ship to the us, so i looks like i might be going to a z77 board after all.

i will probably end up taking out my blu-ray drive soon, but if i did have one i really like this minimal faceplate.

Also this Asus drive looks good the way it's pictured here with the black casing, but in the comments people said it's not actually black the one you get if you order it.

Ideally if I were to keep using an optical drive internally (which I'm probably not as of this evening) I would like something that had the minimal all black bezel on the top drive and the all black casing on the asus drive pictured above.

Update

hello guys. this is just a quick update on what I'm up to.

Right now I'm trying to pick up one of the 6 core 1366 cpus at a price that is low enough that even if all i do is play around with it for a couple weeks and overclock it constantly and see how high i can push it, then it will be worth it even for the fun I get out of that, or I might end up keeping it, since I know the 6 core 1366 cpus are really good and get amazing cinebench scores.

Another thing I might end up doing is picking up one of my favorite z77 boards (right now my favorite is the msi z77 mpower, second being the sabertooth z77, but leaning toward the mpower because i prefer the black exposed pcb of the msi over the thermal armor stuff that asus board has.) and get a 3770k, probably around Christmas maybe if the stuff goes on same and then just move to z77 completely.

As far as graphics cards go-My gigabyte 6950 is holding out extremely well and it's rock stable at 900mhz on the core, but that still doesn't stop me from longing for something new, i'm sure others here know that feeling. so i might see about getting something new, not 100% sure yet but it will either be a 7950/70 or a 670/680 of some sort, and this time I will be buying the one that I like the look of the most, has a black pcb, good looking cooler, etc because I want it to really fit in with the rest of the built (unlike the blue gigabyte one i have now)

Right now my favorite looking cards are the Palit gtx 680 jetstream, gainward 680 phantom, and the evga 680 ftw, or any of the evga ones that have the white trim around the side of the card because i really like how minimal that looks and i like the blackplate on those too. I also like the look of the msi twin frozer iii stuff and the newer ones like the lighting, but i dont like the big blue power reactor thing on some of the newer ones.

This evening after I do a few things I am going to move my Lamptron FC6 into the top optical bay of my case and remove my blu-ray drive. I am going to see about maybe moving my blu-ray drive into some sort of external optical enclosure like the external dvd drives you buy come in so that i can still use it when i want to. I will try to take a few pictures of what i'm doing (mainly filing the mounting holes again for the top bay this time) and I will post an update with some pictures once I'm done.

Also, it looks like I'm going to be able to get my hands on a i7-970 at a great price , and I'm also looking at getting an MSI twin frozer 3 7950. the price for the msi card is quite good now, but i imagine it will be even better around christmas and especially when the next generation of amd cards are released.

You can also just cut out the space for the optical drives drawer and fit a little piece of alluminium on the drawers front, seen that often - works good and looks pretty. Mayby include something to push the button. :)

Ah yes I see what you mean. I like the look of that.

Do you know how you go about getting one of those? Do you have to make them yourself or is it something you can order from someplace like MNPCTECH?

I've also always been a fan of front panels that are, for example all mesh with fans behind it all the way up, or all optical bay covers the whole way op with mesh on them all like in the Antec 900 / 1200

I guess I just like consistency in the front design, and there is something about mesh and fans behind it that I like the look of too. That is one of the reasons that one thing I do not like about the deign of the 650D is the little flap that pops down for the USB and front panel stuff and the little power button beside that , to me the way that looks looks micky mouse compared to the design of the rest of the case it just looks out of place to me.

I love the design of the case overall its very clean and amazing for the price, but theres just something about that right at the top that doesn't flow with the rest of the lines to me

I believe I saw a nice Antec 1200 on here with 4 120mm fans in the front and it looked really nice.

Ive also seen a similar sort of thing in Tom's Lian Li A77 http://youtu.be/6GyNiCnPWGw?hd=1&t=5m42s

The Silverstone RV02E is another favourite of mine, it was actually the other case I was considering when I bought my 650D.

Most recently I was admiring how nice the Merlin Sm8 looked with that handsome 1 piece radiator mesh in the front. I think that would look really nice with a good looking double bay res or if you could get one that was a bit taller and covered up those 2 optical bay slots at the top that would be really nice too.

I love the 650D, but yesterday I caught myself envying the extremely clean lines and the extremely high level of quality of the Merlin case and how nice that front panel looked etc etc :0

Also one other small thing is that the power button of the 650d, or at least the one i have is very mushy and stiff and it doesn't have a nice click to it at all (you can barley push it, really) one thing that i really love is a very brisk, crisp click in a button like those ones that Tom was pushing on the Merlin and the other button he pushed out of the frame... I know it is being fussy, but I just wish I had a more crisp button to press ;)

Here is one for example. He will also costumize it, if you want that for example for the Lamptron panel ..

Alright looks good! thanks! it's looks very clean I like it.. Im also tempted to look into getting a nicer power button, not sure how easy that is.

I really like those lightboxes for 800d, i was admiring how nice those looked int hat mkii case a minute ago. I really don't like harsh lighting so that looks good to me.

Yes, if you want the Lightbox just request it you can find costum requested parts in the shop, he makes everything - don't be shy. :)
