Absolutely. This partnership will help build their revenue stream pretty nicely, which brings them one step closer (small as it may or may not be) to being more competitive and building their total market share. I like the direction AMD has been heading lately, and I definitely feel like the next year or two will be extremely exciting for them.

i wonder what apple knows about ati's new gpu's that arent even rumored yet. that we dont know lol..
i cant see them putting 290x's or similar in them personally.. i also wonder if its just an api thing?

Oh I'm certain they are privy to that sort of information already. I think that, along with the rest of us, they are pretty excited to see what kinds of performance increases and power savings their next generation of GPUs will offer.

Great news! As you guys have already said it'll be interesting to see what this extra revenue will ultimately lead to in R&D, new products etc.

The fact that the consoles are using AMD hardware too should have already heavily contributed I would've thought

Yeah the console contracts they got have definitely bolstered their revenue stream, but they are still so much smaller than the likes of Intel that they still need it. Until they can purchase or build their own fab facility they will need to continue to make partnerships like this to get themselves to being on closer footing. Until then, Global Foundries it is.

Yeah agreed but it's all progress so fingers crossed for more competition!

The mac pros have had AMD gpus in them since launch so I guess this isn't surprising. Might mean certain creative software might start to use Open GL more or something.

You mean OpenCL? That's what the AMD cores excel at. Whereas GL performs better on Nvidia cores.

yeah. Tbh I've never paid that close attension to that general area before

Fair enough.. I just remember back when the Titan was the top card even in OpenCL tests a 7870 was able to keep up with it. Anything above a 7870 just destroyed it though.. OpenGL is a different but Nvidia tends to perfom better(just not to the extent amd does with CL).
