A basic construction guide?

There doesn't seem to be such a basic guide on the site, and it is surely a massively imporant guide to have. I may write one meself over christmas, as i am sure people coming onto the site for the first time will be looking for a guide which tells you literally, how to put a PC together. Any thoughts on this?

sorry to urinate on your bbq but wouldn't most visitors to an overclocking website generally know how to build a pc?

Surely it wouldn't hurt to cater to the minority who don't

Was thinking of doing one of these, then kemp suggested a video.

Ill digg out my cameras, PVR and 100% legal copy*ahem* of premier and see how it goes over the holiday if theres a big enough demand?

Ye I reckon it'd be pretty sweet in video format as there's prolly a million written guides on how to build a PC on the net

Theres even a Haynes manual on it, which is preferable to the large amount of people who will make mistakes filling up the forums with 'Was I supposed to use this white goo?' threads

a short and sweet video would be the best bet if you ask me

Excellent idea tbh.

Anything that can both educate and cut down on simplistic threads being created is worth doing.

Not only that, but would there be many things up for debate ? Or would Ham go for a general approach ?

I`m keen to watch and I`ve built 50million pcs, and I`m sure there are many many people who come to this site who build their first rig, and more importantly get the confidence to do so, and this would help. Can be directed to also when people ask such questions.

Great stuff.

Here's the text version:

1. Buy a gigabyte board.

2. Plug everything in to the corresponding colour-coded ports.

3. Press power button

;)

My first board was a Gigabyte, I did find everything on those boards damn easy. It also came with a big A3 poster type thing with a step by step guide on building! Fool proof tbh...

Also it had a hidden OCing section in the BIOS (accessed by pressing CTRL + F1) that I found later on and pointed it out to the older guys who had showed me everything about PCs ;)

I think a simple, well done 10 minute video showing the basics of building a PC would be a great idea. Reading how to build a PC could be daunting for a totally inexperienced person, however when you see it all being done in front of you and realise how simple it actually is, it gives you the confidence to do it yourself.

Ham should make a "Ghetto PC build video" tbh

AVI! :)

You already made it? i think it needs to be professional, maybe with some lightish music and text for ease of understanding, and well lit, well filmed, and conforming to all good practices, as well as taking it nice and slow. For instance, i saw a crappy video, with bad filming, low light, and it was way too complicated, and was done on a carpet, with no grounding at all. Not great needless to say...

If you have a reassuring face/voice, then show yourself/speak. If you are scary,do not.

Here is an example of a good vid: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SINjiyZ3yNs

And a very bad one: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QkSLC_Np2CE [btw, it is bad because of lighting, carpet, bad quality, the guy is too informed, trying to shape peoples buying desicions to what he likes, and he is to technical for people who are noobs, and finally, he is SO scary.]
