Hmmm not too sure about the white fans! Would've probably preferred them black (pink would ruin the subtle pink accenting). Nevertheless, it looks amazing!

Very very nice. But the only thing that has my OCD ticking is the tubing consistency. you used amazing fittings throughout for 90degree turns but you bent the tubes for the CPU/GPU connection. Would have loved to see the rotary fittings here too.

Yeah, I should have gone with higher rpm eLoops from the start. I bought these because the spec was good and they were dirt cheap - having already spent £50 on fans that I couldn't use or refund.

This is amazing.
Do in win know about this?

Nope, I might post it to their fb page, see what they think.

I did try and plan it that way, but because the CPU is offset to the side it just wasn't possible. I wanted to bend the tubing under the graphics cards so it was bends in the front and fittings in the back, but my sound card got in the way. :(

Looks amazing, also that cpu to gpu bend is very impressive, did it take many attempts?

Thanks! Surprisingly they were both first attempts! Though I don't think I let them cool fully before letting go of them because when it came to the final assembly they were a right bitch to fit - kept popping out and stuff. Took about an hour to get them both in place and I was shitting myself about them leaking when I first filled it.

Final update time!!

I an sorry but having your rads like this looks very inefficient as all that appears to be happening is you are moving heat from one rad to the next.

Visually though your build does look good.

I think it looks stunning, it might not be the most effective cooling but whatever, it is gorgeous!

Epic build, go tease inwin, i dont think they would ever expect something like this.

I think if you used 2x 45degree rotaries instead of a 90degree, you have more adjustable angles to play with so you could have managed the offset. This is how i did the offset on my cpu.

I didn't build this with efficiency in mind, just aesthetics.

I tried with a bunch of 30/60/45 fittings, but nothing lined up perfectly, and I wasn't going to use multiple fittings/extensions to make it work when I can just bend the acrylic.

It definitely does look good and way better than any of mine.:)

Everything I build ends up looking pig ugly.:D

Watch out in the next few weeks for a red and black beast I am building at the moment, and yes it is pig ugly.:D

Long overdue update time!

After nearly 4 years of use & neglect, I finally got around to properly finishing this build, the way I should have done those years ago.

As you can see, Mayhems Pastel shouldn’t be used for this length of time. The white particles completely separated from the rest of the liquid, there was a semi-pastel suspended in the middle, and a rather clear pink fluid floating on the top.

Elsewhere in the loop, there was no pastel left, just bubbles and transparent pink fluid.

There was also some discolouration in the tubing, likely from the sun.

Here you can see the discolouration of the tubing more clearly after draining the loop.

As well as the manky fluid, the fans didn’t age well either.

Or the radiators.

Gross.

I was never a fan of the white fans. Some of you may recall I used them after the 800rpm e-loops didn’t move enough air and I ended up frying my pump. They were meant to be a cheap rival to Gentle Typhoons, but they were just cheap. And the white looked awful.

So here they are; actual Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm!

MPXBfzB.jpg

These are much quieter, don’t have an annoying “ticking” like the old fans would occasionally produce, and push a lot more air! :D
I did, however, have to modify the fans to allow me to attach a radiator to both sides - but these cuts will be hidden from the final build...

As well as changing out the fans and the coolant, I decided on a colour change for the cables. I wanted to hide them a bit, and for a quick fix I decided to dye them black.

This didn’t work. And the only thing that was dyed was the missus’s hand.

Oh well.. New parachord and cable combs it is!

That’s it for this update. I also bought some 1mm aluminium sheet to neaten up the original cut-outs of the case and hide the PSU - but no build pictures of those, unfortunately, as it was a big enough job without stopping for photos every few minutes.

I’ll leave you with an image of how I fill and bleed the loop. Case on it’s side, front of the res taken off, topped up, put back and bled.

Pastel is a nightmare when it collapses. Mine (red) turned poo brown and was very chalky. That was only after about 3 months of use, too.

Never using it again.

That is because you are using the wrong type of dye, dude.

You need to use a synthetic dye. In the late 70s to now a company made mag wheels for BMX. Any way, after 40 years the plastic on them turns almost white. So that ^ is what the chaps use to get them back to new condition. It's specifically designed to bond to plastic.

One of the good things about living in Canada is that we can get Gentle Typhoons with black blades, since my local water cooling guy somehow obtained the rights to sell his own Typhoons. Same good old Nidec motors, but with black blades, and PWM options. My favorite fans by miles.

Probably not in the same price bracket, but how do the well known Gentle Typhoons perform in comparison to the also well known Corsair ML fans?...

BTW I would like to note that I always love to see the "What happened next" phase of a mod build. Like, I always post mine if I am updating or changing them etc but many just vanish into obscurity. So I am quite excited to see the rig get a clean up :)

I saw that happen with Pastel red/orange quite often when I built systems for OCUK.. Any system that wasn't fully flushed out seemed to discolour instantly.

Thanks for the info! I just used some that I had lying around, thinking it would be a quick fix - in reality it made 2x the work...

Damn that's good for you guys! I couldn't find them at all when I fist started this build, and it's the reason I decided to finish it off - finding some genuine new/unused fans for sale in the UK. :D

They're probably not as good as newer fans, but they were literally used in every high end build back in the day when I used to be obsessed, so I've always wanted to use them.

I was debating whether or not to update the build log, as the hardware is about 6 years out of date now, but the build (to me at least) looks so much cleaner now, I just had to update this log.

Oh wow a blast from the Build log past, this was an epic build and so glad to see it again.

Thanks man, that's a name I remember well from the original post!

& Here it is!

Just over 5 years since this thread was started... The PC is finally finished.

What I did:
  • Cut and bent sheet of aluminium covering the PSU and cable mess, as well as fully hiding the pump, fans & SSD power cables.
  • Cut to size a large sheet of aluminium to cover the whole back of the case so only a single cable is visible & drilled holes so that only the tubing can be seen.
  • Cut and bent 4 strips of aluminium to cover the fans up on the radiators.
  • Sprayed the blanking covers, plugs, SLi bridge in satin black.
Enjoy.

That's all folks; she's finished!

...Apart from maybe colouring the fluid at some point down the line...:D
