Xbox's Project Scorpio will not compete with high-end PCs

And this is news because?????
We all know it can't compete. I mean the price point target confirmation is nice to see but the PS3 came out at $600 back in the day.. so they could do that. But he says it like it won't be that high. So hopefully not, otherwise that's ridiculous.

It's news because not all people who are on this forum are just pc users.

I game on my pc, as well as on a Xbox One and now a PS4 not the pro version as it's not worth it, but I do plan on getting a "Scorpio".

The sooner that consoles allow keyboard and mouse support in games, the better because to be honest I will stop playing FPS games on the PC then and just have a pc purely for Elite Dangerous and video editing, because I prefer playing on a console now and not having to deal with Aimbots and Wallhacks in nearly all games where they can be used.

Well it's going to be 6TFLOPS and by the time it comes out next year we will either be on Volta or the Pascal refresh which will be easily over 10TFLOPS of power so yeah, To Microsoft - "No s*** Sherlock" ^_^

Your point? I game on pS4 and Xbox too, however it shouldn't be news that a console is not competing with a high end PC. Anyone who has any basic understanding of hardware would know this, PC or Console player.
(Not disrespecting Mark here or anything, just surprised this is news that sites are reporting)

Yeah I don't like the way they call it Holiday either..

I guess it depends where the press release is targeted for but it's a global industry and a global audience now so surely it's not that hard for them to say "June 2017"

I also hate 'Coming Fall 2017...' particularly for movie trailers. Not only do you have to translate to Autumn, you also have to Geo-localize it. So for me that means Spring.

First world problems ;)

back on topic - I think it's a good thing for MS to be clear about capability and the market position as far as Scorpio goes. Sony are marketing the PS4 Pro as 4K gaming but I doubt anyone would legitimately get 4K + decent Frame rates in any title. That won't stop the masses from stating it as fact, regardless of what resolution it's actually outputting.

I thought Holiday 2017 meant Christmas 2017, but I can't actually find a definitive answer.

Seeing as MS is a US based company, Holiday 2017 generally refers to November and December and specifically around Thanksgiving things tend to come out. Remember the last console launch? PS4 came out the 12th I believe of November. Then the 18th Xbox came out or something like that.

I'd think of it more as Holiday Season, rather than Christmas time.

And in other news, Water is wet! Startling revelations!
Technically water is sticky;)
Covalent bonds and all that:p

Well I assume they say it instead of Christmas because not every culture celebrates it, but there are various holidays in that season from different cultures. Still it's not that obvious, I'd rather it was more explicit.

Price is irreverent, a company the size of Microsoft can make a $600 console compete with an $800 PC easily just from the fact they are Microsoft and can strike deals with hardware vendors or help design products to reduce the price of components thus making it cheaper to make and more affordable for consumers.

And good you bring up the PS3 because even in 2006 $600 for a blu-ray player that did everything the PS3 did was actually a bargain, so much so Sony actually didn't make a profit of the PS3 at first.

Yep as stupid as it sounds, people come under fire for using religious terms these days.

Not allowed to officially advertise Merry Christmas, its offensive apparently. You have to say seasons greetings.

Or Holiday season instead of Christmas season.

I find it really odd that the western world is largely Christian yet the western world isn't allowed to say anything Christian anymore since PC culture started gaining traction and incase it offends a minority that has no problem publicly displaying their religion.

I'm not Christian but I find it to be very odd behavior.

I agree, it's increasingly frustrating.

As an atheist though I'd rather it all just went away. It's a massively over commercialised hallmark event these days, nothing to do with tradition or anything anymore, it's all about buying, presents, gifting and spoilt kids these days :(

Same here I was never really religious in the first place but it seems the west is slowly erasing it's cultures and past so not to offend people coming in, I just can't understand it.

Anyway back on topic, I reckon this thing's gonna come in at around £399, My only question is will they revamp the current elite controller to use bluetooth like the latest controller.

It is obvious in the US, which is why they say it. End of the year. Doesn't mean it's exactly correct but that's just what companies say

It's a tradition here still, most people go to church on Christmas even if they generally don't otherwise. Idk where you guys get your information from, but the middle and lower classes majority treat it as a special time of the year. The rich class however generally just treats it as you owe me something. Which is very irritating. Those are the spoilt kids like you say. They ruin it all:(

All of my family are devout Christian apart from me as I don;t like religion but I just go with them to church for Christmas to put a smile on their faces to take part in the family activity, I also merry Christmas the s*** out of everyone and if they say "OMG it offends my feelings" I say it 10 times ^_^
