@ which point would u consider it safe to allocate no virtual memory for Win XP Prof (or any I guess) ?

2g ?

4g ?

++ ?

Don`t think there`s a need for a poll.

Well afaik XP cant utilise more than 3gb of ram (or sommit close to that), and even with 3gb, I wouldnt consider turning off the swap.

theres a reg entry somewhere that makes your computer urilise all the physical memory before using the swap file, finding that could be more useful

I think that was only in windows 9x, and doesn't work in xp.

Never. You need a pagefile for some program eg Photoshop to run.

Yeah this was my major concern. I`m of the opinion that if u just did something like playing games, u`d probably be ok.

But I know, or atleast have a vague experience of, apps such as dvd burners - the likes of Nero, like to have the swap even tho it would appear they shouldn`t need it. I can remember 1 system working with gigs of memory and a fixed size pagefile that was 1.5 the size of memory, and optical apps just failed - bizzare.

U`r probably right with Photoshop and similar stuff like Paintshop - and almost certainly stuff coming out of the m$ labs.

Great input, thanks guyz.
