hi sry for poping this subject am sure it was mentioned before but will x3 6870 or x2 6870 + x1 6850 outrun 6990?

is crossfire still worth the money over single gpu card ?

You want to run 3 6870/6850's in TriFire? I googled it, and it is apparently not possible to TriFire 68xx cards.. If you look at the cards, each card only has 1 crossfire bridge connector, so no possibility to connect the 3rd one..

A 6990 is two 'gimped' 6970's in one card, so 6870's in crossfire won't beat the 6990.. 6970 Crossfire > 6990 > 6870 Crossfire..

6870's in crossfire gives really good performance though, and 6970 crossfire or a 6990 gives insane performance.. 6970 Crossfire is probably cheaper or the same price as a 6990, and has better performance.

If you haven't already bought any of the cards you could research if you get better performance for you money going with Nvidia instead, they have some really nice cards. GTX 560 Ti I believe is the best bang for buck for any GPU atm, but I haven't researched it too much.

AMD 7000 series is on it's way as well, you could wait for that.

The only way you will be able to use more than 2 6870s in one rig at once would be to get a 6870x2 by powercolor and xfire that. theoretically that would be the same speed as a 6990. The issues is you are using 4 GPUs and only a handful of games support that, so most of the time at best you will be getting 6970 performance.

it seems one cant go arround the amd tricks ha , seems like they allways push consumers to buy newer single cards over multi cards, wonder why they do that.

the thing is that i allready have 6870 will it be possible to crossfire 6870 with the 7000 series?

when amd gonna lunch the 7000 ? is the new series gonna be cheaper then 6000 series or will it lower the prices of 6000 series?

(sry for bad english guys)

I would recommend getting a second 6870, you will get better performance than with a single 6970 with maybe a 10% better performance on the 6870 xfire.

no it's highly unlikely that you will have the ability to xfire a 6870 with say a 7870 when released unless you have Lucid Hydra.

Their is no release date of 7xxx series, and it's still mostly a rumor, the floating rumor is that it will be around the same performance as the current 6xxx series but with a few differences to make them over heat less (that is what the 6xxx is known for.)

Your wasting your time if you are waiting for the 7xxx series, most likely wont be released till q2 2012 AT BEST. I am guessing Q3 to Q4.
